Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office announced on Saturday the appointment of Dr. Zoram Aria and R. Balasubramaniam as full-time members of NITI Aayog, injecting new vigor into India’s premier policy think tank.
Hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, Dr. Aria is a trailblazing academic whose journey from the Nyishi community to national prominence inspires many. As the first woman from her tribe and the state to secure a PhD in Hindi, she has dedicated over 18 years to advancing education, research, and policy. Currently an associate professor and regulator in private education, her publications on Nyishi culture and indigenous systems enrich India’s diverse knowledge landscape.
R. Balasubramaniam complements this with his deep involvement in public administration reforms. As Member (HR) in the Capacity Building Commission, he spearheaded Mission Karmayogi, revolutionizing digital training for civil servants. His book on PM Modi’s leadership philosophy and contributions to the Karmayogi framework highlight his vision for empowered governance.
The move follows the recent elevation of economist Ashok Lahiri to Vice Chairman, replacing Suman Bery. Lahiri’s post-assumption meeting with PM Modi signaled a proactive start, which he publicized on X.
With these additions, NITI Aayog is strengthening its focus on cooperative federalism, skill development, and cultural integration. Dr. Aria’s regional perspective and Balasubramaniam’s administrative prowess promise innovative strategies for India’s Amrit Kaal vision, fostering equitable progress across states.
