Chandigarh’s Congress MP Manish Tewari took a significant step for stray animals by inaugurating a specialized ambulance service under his MP fund. Partnering with the renowned Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the vehicle promises round-the-clock emergency response.
During the flag-off ceremony, Tewari elaborated on the project’s urgency. ‘Urbanization has intensified the plight of street animals needing prompt first aid and transport to clinics. This ambulance addresses that critical need,’ he told media persons.
He acknowledged the administrative hurdles faced by welfare organizations, praising local bodies for stepping up. ‘Population pressures make service delivery tough, but collaborative support is making a difference for animal care,’ Tewari noted.
Shifting gears, the MP fired back at PM Modi’s comments on women’s reservation legislation. ‘National addresses shouldn’t turn into political battlegrounds. Congress backs the bill wholeheartedly, but not its misuse for delimitation delays. Passed with consensus in 2023, why hasn’t it been notified for over two years?’ he probed.
SPCA’s multifaceted work includes rescuing strays, offering medical treatment, running shelters, facilitating adoptions, and educating communities on ethical animal treatment. Operating across major cities, the organization now has enhanced mobility in Chandigarh thanks to this donation.
This development signals a proactive approach to animal welfare, potentially inspiring similar projects elsewhere. It reflects Tewari’s commitment to constituency issues beyond traditional politics, fostering a kinder urban ecosystem.
