KP-3 Cheetah Alert: From Kuno Park to Rajasthan Borders

Alert levels are high in Rajasthan’s Baran district after cheetah KP-3, originally released in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park, strayed into village vicinities. This nomadic feline has clocked nearly 600 km in two months, weaving through wildlife corridors and residential zones with remarkable agility.

KP-3 has been spotted roaming Kishanganj, Chhipabaroda, Atru, Chhabra, and surrounding forest beats. Close brushes with villagers sparked a mix of awe and alarm—one incident saw the cheetah turn defensive amid a gathering crowd, forcing rangers to intervene swiftly.

Forest teams are on constant vigil, with KP-3’s latest position confirmed in Baran’s wooded expanses. Its menu boasts successful hunts of nilgai, goats, calves, rabbits, and wild pigs, underscoring its adaptability. However, lingering near farms and homes poses risks of livestock losses and human-wildlife clashes.

The GPS collar’s water damage briefly hampered tracking, but signals resumed, revealing its path across the Parvati River to Kishanganj and a stint in Shergarh Sanctuary. Adding to the drama, fellow cheetah KP-2 prowls near Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, where territorial tigers could spell trouble.

Experts view these migrations as core to cheetah behavior, honed for vast savannas now fragmented by development. Authorities implore residents to stay vigilant: no selfies with predators, secure yards, and alert officials immediately. With radio collars and drones in play, the race is on to prevent mishaps while respecting nature’s roamers.
