In a resounding vote of confidence, Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Barua has projected the BJP to storm past 90 seats in the state assembly elections, potentially touching triple digits. Addressing the media in Guwahati on Friday, he painted a picture of inevitable triumph for the NDA alliance across the state.
Barua specifically spotlighted Nalbari district, vowing victories in all its three constituencies, backed by overwhelming public enthusiasm during electioneering. ‘Ground-level support has been phenomenal,’ he noted, attributing it to the government’s track record.
Dismissing the opposition’s relevance post-May 4 results, Barua quipped that Congress and allies’ narratives would fade into obscurity. He subtly critiqued major opposition figures, insisting voters have firmly sided with the incumbents.
The minister’s arithmetic is ambitious: at least 90 seats in the 126-seat house, with 100 very much in play. Drawing parallels to 2016, when BJP bagged 20 of lower Assam’s 51 seats, he now eyes 35 from the same area, reflecting five years of consolidation.
‘We’ve built unshakeable foundations,’ Barua remarked, pointing to enhanced organizational machinery and voter connect. This comes as Assam’s polls underscore battles over infrastructure, jobs, and ethnic harmony.
With results just days away, Barua’s forecast injects momentum into BJP campaigns, challenging rivals to counter the wave of incumbency. The outcome could solidify BJP’s grip, paving way for accelerated reforms in the northeast powerhouse.
