A chilling double murder has stunned Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, where a husband went on a rampage with a knife, killing his wife and her mother while leaving the father critically injured.
The bloodbath occurred late evening in Bacheypur village, Nagara police station area. Perpetrator Amit Gupta, hailing from Sihanchwar in Gadwar, tied the knot with local girl Preeti through love marriage in 2022. What began with family opposition eventually thawed, but underlying rifts persisted.
Recently, Amit fetched Preeti from her parental home for ‘vidaai,’ but instead of taking her to their place, he allegedly tormented her. Her father Antu intervened, rescuing her and bringing her back. She was under family protection for 10 days when Amit struck.
Eyewitness Kirti, Preeti’s sister, recounted the terror: Amit entered aggressively, targeting the child first. Preeti’s resistance provoked the stabbing frenzy. Sushila Devi, the mother, heroically attempted rescue but fell victim next. Father Antu, arriving amid screams, suffered severe wounds.
Preeti and Sushila perished instantly; Antu was rushed to Varanasi for emergency care. The village remains on edge, with locals demanding swift justice.
SP Omvir Singh detailed the response: Postmortems underway, intensive manhunt with three teams deployed. Raids continue at suspected locations. Authorities vow comprehensive investigation into the motives behind this savage act, underscoring the perils of unresolved family feuds.
