On the solemn occasion of Maharaja Hari Singh’s death anniversary, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and several BJP stalwarts offered profound salutes to the last Dogra ruler. Their messages on social media highlighted his unwavering commitment to India and his visionary leadership.

Lt Governor Sinha’s tribute on X painted Hari Singh as an exemplary leader whose legacy of equitable administration and social cohesion resonates deeply. ‘His values of unity and harmony will guide future generations,’ Sinha noted, bowing in respect.

Joining the remembrances, Vijay Kumar Sinha, ex-Chief Minister of Bihar, portrayed the Maharaja as a true jananayak—a champion of the masses and firm ally of free India. Similarly, Dinesh Sharma, Uttar Pradesh’s former CM, lauded his dedication to public interest amid the chaos of partition.

Hari Singh’s life was one of royal duty and national service. Succeeding his uncle Pratap Singh in 1923, he navigated the complexities of a princely state on the brink of monumental change. Post-1947, facing invasion by tribal lashkars and Pakistani regulars, he signed the Instrument of Accession, inviting Indian military aid and securing the region’s future with the Union.

Married four times, his union with Maharani Tara Devi produced son Karan Singh, a prominent political figure. The monarchy ended in 1952, but Hari Singh’s influence lingered until his demise in Mumbai on this day in 1961. Son of Maharaja Ranbir Singh’s lineage, he embodied the Dogra dynasty’s resilience.

These tributes revive discussions on Hari Singh’s pivotal role in India’s integration saga. In an era of divisive narratives, honoring such figures reinforces the bonds of shared history and patriotic fervor.
