South Kashmir’s Pulwama continues to witness aggressive anti-drug drives by local police, with two bikers arrested Friday carrying 7.50 grams of suspected heroin. The interception at Neva Police Post came amid heightened checks to dismantle smuggling rings operating in the region.

The motorcycle, en route from Hasnwani to Singoo Narbal, was stopped for routine scrutiny. Hidden beneath the seat, officers uncovered a green plastic bag containing the contraband. Identified as Mohammad Altaf Lone of Turka Wagam and Sameer Ahmad Dar of Batpora, the duo now faces charges under the stringent NDPS Act at Pulwama station.

Preliminary probes suggest deeper involvement, with further raids planned. This incident echoes recent successes: in March, Pulwama forces seized 263 grams of heroin from a truck in Liter, arresting driver Athar Maqbool Gani from Anantnag’s Bijbehara. The haul’s street value ran into lakhs.

Just weeks ago, another trafficker, Mohammad Arif Malik from Malikpora, was caught on Tengpora Road near the Women’s Degree College with a whopping 771 grams of narcotic substance resembling charas or ganja, tucked in a nylon pouch.

These back-to-back operations reflect a strategic escalation by J&K Police, blending intelligence-led policing with visible checkpoints. Authorities urge public cooperation to safeguard the valley’s younger generation from the scourge of substance abuse, promising zero tolerance for such crimes.
