In a swift rebuttal, India’s Union Government has quashed speculations of an imminent petrol and diesel price surge of up to Rs 28 per litre following the conclusion of state elections. The Petroleum Ministry branded these stories as baseless on Thursday via a post on X.

‘We clarify unequivocally: no proposal for fuel price hikes is being considered,’ the post read, condemning the reports as fear-mongering tactics designed to mislead the public.

Proudly noting that India stands alone globally in maintaining stable retail fuel prices over four years, the ministry credited proactive measures by authorities and oil majors for buffering citizens against global oil price swings.

Reiterating supply stability in Wednesday’s briefing, officials discouraged hoarding of fuels or gas and emphasized trust in verified channels. Full stocks of LPG, PNG, and CNG are maintained countrywide.

Key initiatives include the sale of over 2 million 5-kg FTL cylinders since March 2026, tailored for low-income and migrant communities, with production ramped up twofold. PNG networks are booming: 510,000 new pipelines connected, 256,000 more primed, and 577,000 registrations in pipeline.

Through incentives from partner firms and state-level accelerations, the push for PNG aims to cut emissions and enhance accessibility, signaling a commitment to affordable, eco-friendly energy amid economic pressures.
