The upcoming fourth India-Africa Forum Summit in 2026 is set to reignite momentum in one of the world’s most dynamic partnerships. Speaking to media in New Delhi, South Africa’s High Commissioner Anil Sooklal described the event, slated for May 28-31, as a game-changer for collaboration amid rapid growth trajectories on both sides.
Drawing from history, Sooklal underscored centuries-old ties between the Indian subcontinent and African nations, enriched by people-to-people connections and anti-imperialist solidarity. He reminisced about landmark summits—2008’s inaugural, 2011’s follow-up, and 2015’s milestone where he represented South Africa—crediting them with laying a solid foundation for joint endeavors. A decade-long hiatus, exacerbated by the pandemic, now ends with renewed vigor.
Africa’s sprint towards development mirrors India’s economic surge, creating synergies in addressing parallel challenges from infrastructure to innovation. Key agenda items will include pushing for equitable global reforms in multilateral bodies and confronting common foes like terrorism. Sooklal anticipates continuity in focus areas like education, where India’s scholarships have empowered over 85,000 African students, far exceeding the 50,000 pledged earlier.
‘Skilling youth is vital for Africa’s opportunities, and India is ideally positioned to contribute,’ the envoy affirmed. South Africa commits to top-tier attendance, including business leaders, to elevate trilateral, continental, and bilateral engagements. This summit isn’t just an event; it’s a blueprint for sustainable growth, security, and shared global influence.
