Humayun Kabir Hails TMC Defeat in Bengal Polls Over Corruption Charges

West Bengal’s electoral drama unfolded dramatically on Monday as vote counts revealed a tectonic shift. All India United People’s Party leader Humayun Kabir, a vocal critic of the ruling Trinamool Congress, celebrated the results as poetic justice for years of alleged misrule.

From his base in Berhampore, Kabir told IANS, ‘TMC’s three stints in power were defined by bad decisions and unchecked corruption. No wonder they’re paying the price now.’ He had forecasted BJP’s edge over TMC, a prediction now vindicated by early leads.

Delving deeper, Kabir highlighted systemic failures under TMC. Joblessness plagues the state, roads are pothole-ridden nightmares, schools fail to educate, and hospitals overflow with patients sharing scant resources. ‘They did nothing worthwhile in their tenure,’ he charged.

Election Commission data by 1:30 PM showed BJP leading on 194 seats, TMC on 92 in the 293-seat contest (one seat deferred). AISF edged two, CPI(M) one, Congress zilch. This from two-phase polls where voter turnout was fierce.

Confident of his own victories in Rezinagar and Naoda—where he’s currently ahead—Kabir shrugged off BJP’s ascent. ‘The people’s mandate is clear; if it’s BJP, we respect it.’

Kabir’s commentary captures the pulse of discontent that fueled this upheaval. TMC’s grip, once ironclad, appears fractured. As final results solidify, Bengal braces for a new chapter, with BJP poised to challenge the status quo and Kabir’s AIUPP staking its claim in the emerging order.
