In a display of steady brilliance, India’s Diksha Dagar vaulted into contention at the MCB Ladies Classic Mauritius on the Ladies European Tour. Her second-round 3-under 69 without a single bogey came on the heels of an opening 68, positioning her at 7-under par in a tie for fourth after two rounds.
Trailing the leaders by just two strokes, Dagar is hot on the heels of Smilla Thorning Soenderby (Denmark), Selina Sattelkau (Germany), and Cassandra Alexander (South Africa), who share the top spot at 9-under. Dagar’s birdies at holes 6, 10, and 12 highlighted a round of exceptional accuracy and composure.
The Indian contingent shone brightly, with three of four players surviving the cut. Hitashee Bakshi matched Dagar’s weekend qualification with 71-69, landing tied 19th. Tvesa Malik followed at 70-71, tied 26th. Vani Kapoor bowed out after 78-77.
This resurgence for Dagar follows a 37th-place tie at the Women’s South African Open and two missed cuts. It’s timely momentum as she eyes the Hero Women’s Indian Open. The leaderboard is stacked: seven players at 7-under, including Dagar, and 18 within four shots of the lead among the 75 who advanced past +1 cut line.
Soenderby’s front-nine fireworks (6-under) led to a 69 total. Sattelkau’s five-birdie 67 and Alexander’s seven-birdie recovery from a double bogey to 67 kept the pressure on. Expect fireworks in the final rounds as contenders like Dagar push for glory in this tightly contested event.
