Ecuador’s top diplomat, Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld Rosero, wrapped up a dynamic two-day visit to India from April 29-30, alongside Vice Minister Alejandro Dávalos. The trip injected fresh energy into the bilateral relationship, opening doors across multiple sectors.

High-level meetings underscored priorities in commerce, public health, farming, and tech infrastructure. Rosero’s conversation with EAM S. Jaishankar emphasized bolstering pharma trade, agri-tech exchanges, investments, digital innovation, and joint multilateral efforts. Ecuador handed over formal documents to join the ISA and IBCA, aligning with India’s leadership in sustainable and wildlife conservation arenas.

The centerpiece was the MoU on Quick Impact Projects, committing India to 12 crore rupees in grants for Ecuador over five years. These projects target community-level socio-economic upliftment, from infrastructure to livelihoods.

Talks with Piyush Goyal delved into a PTA framework, pharma market access, and mineral supply chains—copper and gold chief among them—leveraging Ecuador’s resource wealth and India’s manufacturing prowess.

Health Minister JP Nadda and Rosero aligned on generics affordability, healthcare system synergies, and pharmacopoeia standards, greenlighting a dedicated health MoU.

At AIIMS’s Jan Aushadhi outlet, Rosero explored India’s blueprint for accessible drugs, sparking ideas for replication back home. She showed keen interest in DPI pillars like UPI, DBT, and digital IDs, viewing them as models for Ecuador’s modernization.

Cultural touches included tribute at Gandhi’s samadhi and interactions with industry stalwarts via PHDCCI. The new cultural hub at Ecuador’s embassy launch added a vibrant layer.

Coming after India’s Quito embassy inauguration last November, this outreach reflects escalating diplomatic fervor. Expect continued momentum as trade pacts and projects take shape, benefiting both economies.
