New Delhi’s manufacturing, engineering, and infrastructure landscape is buzzing with opportunity. Employment in the MEI sector jumped 6.6% net in the first half of FY 2026-27, eclipsing last year’s 5.5% gain and cementing its place in India’s top hiring hotspots.

TeamLease Services’ latest analysis shows 70% of MEI firms gearing up to add staff, underscoring a hiring momentum that’s reshaping the job market. The sector’s evolution from post-pandemic recovery to full-throttle growth is powered by strategic investments in semiconductors, renewable energy, and cutting-edge production techniques.

‘Semiconductor pushes, clean energy projects, and advanced manufacturing are the engines behind this employment surge,’ stated TeamLease Senior VP Balasubramaniam A. These developments are creating a ripple effect across the economy.

Looking ahead, states like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka stand to benefit immensely from semiconductor ecosystems. An estimated 1 million jobs could emerge by 2028 in areas from chip fabrication and ATMP to design and logistics.

Policy boosters including the National Manufacturing Mission and PLI schemes are unlocking vast employment potential. Meanwhile, Industry 4.0 adoption demands skilled talent in automation, digital plant management, and eco-friendly processes.

Survey insights from over 1,200 employers reveal engineering hiring plans at 33%, with stability in 46% of companies. Urban frontrunners include Chennai (24% growth), Pune (20%), and Bengaluru (18%), driven by specialized manufacturing and R&D clusters.

Regional powerhouses Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Gujarat are leveraging auto, semi-conductor, and infra initiatives for job multiplication. Compensation trends are equally promising: a 9.4% salary rise projected for FY27, topping other major sectors, with Chennai and Pune leading at 9.8%.

As India builds its manufacturing prowess, the MEI sector’s trajectory promises sustained prosperity and skill development for millions.
