The curtains fell on Baramati’s crucial by-election with Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar, NCP president, showering praise on the constituency’s residents for their robust participation. Held after the untimely death of Ajit Pawar, the polling reflected the late leader’s unbreakable bond with the people.

Braving intense summer heat, voters turned out in droves, pushing turnout to approximately 60 percent, according to party insiders. Sunetra termed the exercise a poignant tribute to her late husband, whose relentless efforts transformed Baramati. ‘Every vote cast today echoed Ajit Dada’s love for this land and its people,’ she remarked.

A key pre-poll development saw NCP-SP under Sharad Pawar extending support to Sunetra, opting not to contest. Congress followed suit by withdrawing its candidate, clearing the path for an unchallenged run. Gratitude poured out to Mahayuti allies, MVA components, and community groups.

Sunetra commended the flawless execution by poll staff, security forces, and volunteers, ensuring a smooth democratic process. Among 23 contenders, her position as the Pawar heir apparent strengthens with major rivals stepping aside.

Results due on May 4 could cement Sunetra’s role in Maharashtra’s political landscape, promising sustained progress for Baramati under the family’s stewardship.
