President Lee Jae-myung of South Korea touched down in New Delhi on April 19 for a pivotal state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This maiden trip post his June 2025 inauguration highlights the accelerating momentum in India-South Korea relations.

Flanked by a powerhouse delegation including ministers and business tycoons, Lee’s itinerary kicked off with a ceremonial reception by President Droupadi Murmu and a poignant tribute at Raj Ghat. The leaders’ third rendezvous built on prior G7 and G20 interactions.

Delegations delved into the Special Strategic Partnership, emphasizing expansion in key sectors like AI, semiconductors, shipbuilding, critical minerals, and supply chains. Shared perspectives on regional hotspots, including the Indo-Pacific, reinforced mutual trust.

PM Modi and President Lee interacted with corporate leaders to galvanize business synergies. The bustling India-Korea Business Forum, Financial Cooperation Forum, and Bengaluru’s Space Day event amplified economic dialogues.

Agreements spanned trade, maritime affairs, environment, S&T, education, and culture, crowned by four joint statements. The flagship India-ROK Joint Strategic Vision maps out a visionary path forward.

Spotlight fell on maritime domains with innovative shipbuilding and logistics frameworks. Collaborative approaches to climate action and energy security were forged. Institutional mechanisms, such as annual summits, ministerial meets, Industrial Cooperation Committee, and Economic Security Dialogue, were established.

Trade ambitions soared with a $50 billion target by 2030, triggering CEPA upgrades and digital payment integrations for SMEs and resilient supply chains. This engagement signals a transformative era for Indo-Korean partnership across economics, tech, and geopolitics.
