In a remarkable display of progress, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has established new highs in track modernization and safety measures for FY 2025-26. The announcement came Monday from Guwahati, emphasizing how these achievements elevate service quality and security for the region’s rail users.

Chief PRO Kampinjal Kishore Sharma revealed that following the rollout of advanced Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing last year, NFR inspected 53,544 flash butt welds this fiscal year. This initiative has significantly fortified track reliability, preventing potential failures before they occur.

Track renewal efforts peaked with 457 units fully completed, marking a 33% increase over the prior year’s figures. Renewing 449.42 track km and 465.02 km of sleepers positions NFR ahead of schedule. Record ballast supplies of 9.57 lakh cubic meters improved ride comfort, while 299.61 km of track fittings renewed far exceeded expectations.

Operational enhancements included tamping 4,312 points and upgrading loop lines at 39 stations to 30 km/h speeds. Deep screening covered 258 turnouts, surpassing targets substantially. Safety monitoring via ultrasonic testing spanned 20,212.61 km, and 23 track layouts were successfully realigned.

Security fencing stretched 154.53 km, well beyond the planned 100 km, effectively deterring intrusions. These milestones highlight NFR’s strategic investments in technology and manpower, ensuring a robust rail backbone for Northeast India’s growth. Passengers can look forward to even more reliable journeys ahead.
