India’s Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan immersed himself in spiritual devotion during his Sri Lanka visit, conducting darshan and pooja at the revered Sita Amman Temple in Sita Eliya. Through a heartfelt post on X, he described the site as a testament to the enduring cultural synergy between India and Sri Lanka, drawn from the sacred Ramayana traditions.

Extending his pilgrimage, Radhakrishnan visited Hanuman Kovil in Ashok Vatika, a shrine commemorating Hanuman’s divine footprints during his encounter with Sita. These visits evoke the epic’s profound influence on shared heritage.

He recalled PM Modi’s pledge from the prior year to support the temple’s restoration through Indian aid, a gesture poised to deepen historical affinities between the two lands.

The two-day official trip commenced on April 19, featuring an official meeting with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Earlier, in Colombo, the Vice President was greeted with splendor at Kathiresan and Gangaramaya Temples amid enchanting Tamil performances.

Diplomatic milestones marked the agenda with MoU signings: a key agreement for a new medical facility in Mullaitivu and six others targeting Eastern Province development via Indian grants.

Announcements brought cheer to the diaspora—OCI benefits now reach sixth-generation Indian descendants, with streamlined processes for Indian-origin Tamils. The Indian Housing Project’s third phase delivered 4,000 homes to plantation workers, symbolizing India’s sustained support.

As echoes of ancient epics resonate in modern diplomacy, this visit heralds enhanced collaboration, blending faith, history, and progress for both nations.
