In a powerful critique, an exiled Tibetan leader accuses Chinese officials of treating Tibet like a polished showpiece – beautiful on the surface but rootless and controlled. This comes amid Beijing’s boasts of progress in the region.

Speaking to Japan Forward, Tsawang Gyalpo Arya from the Dalai Lama’s Japan office highlighted the absence of democracy in Tibet despite China’s democratic pretensions. No Tibetan has headed the region’s Party Secretary post in 76 years of ‘reforms.’

Global Times ridiculed CTA’s recent elections as illusory games by exiles. Arya countered that such dismissals from supposed experts ignore the vibrant democracy Tibetans have nurtured in exile, earning worldwide acclaim.

The 1959 exodus saw the Dalai Lama lead 80,000 to safety in India and neighboring nations, forging a path to revive Tibetan spirit amid homeland devastation.

Fast-forward 75 years: Exiles have crafted a model democratic community. Meanwhile, Tibet’s monasteries are CCP-dominated, youth entry banned, schools replaced with assimilation camps for a million young children.

Language suppression is rampant – advocates jailed on fabricated charges. New laws enforce cultural erasure on minorities.

Arya stressed a broader vision: True freedom for Tibetans, Chinese citizens, and all ethnic groups oppressed under the regime.
