In a significant move for futuristic urban landscapes, Datakavery Systems, affiliated with IISc Bengaluru, and Japan’s Onestruction Inc. have forged a strategic MoU. Announced on April 24 in New Delhi, this alliance leverages AI and big data to streamline construction and enhance city development.

The agreement fosters a framework for sharing city and construction data, promoting technical cooperation. It was formalized amid the Japan-India AI Strategic Dialogue, with key officials from METI, MOFA, and MEA in attendance, underscoring bilateral commitment to technological advancement.

Onestruction’s specialized construction datasets will merge with the IUDX platform, which powers data exchange in India’s 55 smart cities across sectors like transport, power, environment, and civic services. This integration tackles the persistent issue of siloed data in infrastructure projects, which loses value after completion.

Future plans include adapting IFC open standards to IUDX, crafting AI tools for smart urban solutions, and pursuing joint funding. The result? Secure platforms for AI applications and digital twins that optimize city operations.

‘Data in construction is gold, yet trapped within silos and single projects,’ remarked Ashok Krishnan from CDPG and Datakavery. ‘Unlocking it will transform urban planning and governance.’

Onestruction’s Lucas Hewuud added, ‘This is a leap forward in fusing construction insights with broader urban data streams, enabling intelligent cities.’

This partnership not only bolsters India’s smart city ambitions but also exemplifies how international collaboration can drive sustainable, tech-savvy urban evolution worldwide.
