As Delhi battles blistering heat, CM Rekha Gupta has rolled out comprehensive safety protocols for schools, demanding compliance reports by May 2. Speaking in a heartfelt video, she stressed the urgency: ‘We cannot risk our children’s well-being in this heat.’

Key mandates include mandatory water breaks signaled by bells every hour, ample supplies of cool water, and no outdoor exposure. Sports and play under the open sky are banned outright. A dedicated nodal officer per school will enforce these rules, ensuring no lapses.

Gupta made a direct appeal to parents: Send kids in breathable cotton attire and keep tabs on school adherence. ‘If something’s amiss, notify the principal or DM without delay,’ she said. WhatsApp groups will disseminate IMD alerts promptly.

The directive aligns with nationwide responses, where heatwaves have forced closures elsewhere. Delhi’s approach prioritizes continuity with safeguards—think shaded assemblies, hydrated classrooms, and vigilant oversight. This isn’t just policy; it’s a shield against the summer fury, fostering a safer educational environment for all.
