  • No heatwave conditions over most of India for five days: IMD

Earlier this month, the IMD predicted above-normal maximum temperatures in most parts of the country from April to June, barring parts of the northwest and the peninsular regions. NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department on Saturday said most parts of India will have a sigh of relief for the next five days from the searing heatwave conditions that had rattled people this week.

It said a cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Madhya Pradesh and another over interior Tamil Nadu.

A trough of relatively low pressure runs from northwest Madhya Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu across Telangana.

Private forecaster Skymet Weather added another trough extends from northeast Bihar to Odisha via Jharkhand.

Weather experts say a trough usually brings cloudy conditions and rain, leading to a drop in temperatures.

According to the IMD, several parts of India had been experiencing heatwave conditions for the past few days.

High temperatures in the northern and central plains had forced the local administrations to either change the timings or shut the schools until the weather improves.

Even in the eastern hills, tea growers complained of relatively high temperatures and prolonged dry spell resulting in crop loss during the ongoing flush season.

In Delhi and its neighbouring areas, people were seen using scarves and taking shelter under trees on Saturday. The maximum temperature hovered around 37 degrees Celsius.

In Maharashtra, the government has shut down all schools affiliated with the state board till June 15. For the Vidarbha region, the summer vacation extends till June 30.

Earlier this month, the IMD predicted above-normal maximum temperatures in most parts of the country from April to June, barring parts of the northwest and the peninsular regions.

The central, east, and northwest parts of the country are expected to experience above-normal heatwave days during this period.

While a few regions have begun getting a respite from the heatwave conditions since Friday, the maximum temperature in some others, such as northwest, central and east India, including interior Gujarat and Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala, still hovered around 40 degrees Celsius.

On Saturday, the maximum temperature was around 35 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country, except the western Himalayan region, where the day temperature was recorded in the range of 16-25 degrees Celsius.

The IMD said Saturday that heatwave conditions abated from Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and Odisha. “No heatwave conditions over most parts of India during the next 5 days,” it added.

The weather office said hailstorms are very likely in parts of Odisha over the next three days, in Bihar for the next two days, and on Monday in Vidarbha.

Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala on Sunday and in Odisha on Monday. Duststorm is very likely at isolated places in south Haryana, northeast Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

Skymet said scattered rainfall is expected in the entire Northeast, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Thunderstorms with patchy rain may occur over the western Himalayas, parts of Haryana, Punjab, Bihar, southeast Uttar Pradesh, southeast Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and south-interior Karnataka.

The IMD has advised farmers should undertake harvesting of matured rice, maize, groundnut and ragi in Andhra Pradesh; rice in Kerala and keep the harvested produce in safer places.

They should postpone harvesting of rice in Arunachal Pradesh and keep the already harvested produce at safer places.

Farmers should use hail nets to protect orchards in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Odisha.

  • Cyclonic storm Asani likely to weaken as it curves away from the east coast

    By PTI

BHUBANESWAR/KOLKATA/RANCHI: Severe cyclonic storm Asani which packed gale-force winds up to 120 kmph, is likely to curve away from the coast and run parallel to the east coast in a north-northeast-ward direction and gradually weaken, the Met office said on Monday.

Coming close to North Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts, it is likely to lessen in intensity into a cyclonic storm by Tuesday night.

The cyclone will not make landfall either in Odisha or Andhra Pradesh but will move parallel to the east coast and cause heavy rain, IMD Director General Mrutunjay Mohapatra had said in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

At least 11 fishermen from Odisha, who were stranded for around eight hours in the rough sea due to the raging severe cyclone ‘Asani’, were rescued on Monday with help of the Indian Coast Guard, an official said.

The fishermen had on May 7 gone to Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam to buy a fishing boat, and while returning from there, they were stuck in the sea around 4-5 km off the coast near Sonaput in Ganjam district after their newly-bought vessel developed some technical glitches, he said.

The cyclonic storm system, which lay about 410 km southeast of Visakhapatnam and 590 km south of Puri at 2.30 pm on Monday, is moving in a north-westward direction with a sustained surface wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph. It caused heavy to moderate rainfall in Odisha and West Bengal during the day.

Under the influence of the cyclone, coastal Odisha and adjoining areas of north coastal Andhra Pradesh and coastal West Bengal are expected to receive more rainfall from Tuesday evening.

The weather office said that very high sea conditions were likely to prevail over west-central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal and asked fishermen not to venture out in the region from Tuesday for at least two days. It also advised that tourism activities in coastal areas and sea beaches be suspended till May 13.

In Odisha, two to three spells of rain occurred in districts such as Khurda, Ganjam, Puri, Cuttack and Bhadrak.

The Odisha government on Monday planned evacuation of people residing in four coastal districts.

Distant warning signal 2 (asking ships not to come near the coast) has been hoisted in all ports in Odisha in view of the approaching severe cyclone.

The cyclone is likely to cause heavy rain in the southern part of West Bengal including Kolkata, Howrah, Purba Medinipur, North and South 24 Parganas and Nadia districts between Monday and Thursday, the weatherman said.

Kolkata and its adjoining areas received a spell of downpour on Monday morning, leading to waterlogging of thoroughfares and causing traffic snarls in various parts of the city. The Regional Met department at Alipore in Kolkata recorded 58 mm rainfall till 5.30 pm, while Salt Lake received 61 mm rainfall.

The weather office in Ranchi said that Jharkhand will experience light to moderate rainfall, besides lightning and thunderstorm, in its southern, central and northeast parts from May 11 to 13.

Gusty winds at speed of 30 to 40 kmph are also expected in some pockets.

“Since the system is unlikely to make landfall on either Odisha or Andhra Pradesh, it will not make any large impact in Jharkhand. The state will experience a change in weather due to the system’s expanded cloud band and the incursion of moisture from the Bay of Bengal,” Ranchi meteorological centre in charge Abhishek Anand told PTI.

The system is expected to provide further respite from the hot weather condition.

Jharkhand’s maximum temperature has already dropped by one to two degrees Celsius from the normal due to intermittent rains in parts of the state for the past few days.

Capital Ranchi registered 34.6 degrees Celsius at 2.30 pm on Monday, a drop of 1.6 degrees Celsius from Sunday. Daltonganj recorded the state’s highest temperature at 39.8 degrees Celsius, a fall of one degree Celsius from the normal since Sunday, and Jamshedpur at 36.6 degrees Celsius, a drop of 2.4 degrees Celsius from the normal temperature, the Met office said.

In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, however, normal life remained unaffected as no rainfall was experienced on Monday.

Inter-island ferry services were operational but fishermen were advised not to venture into deep seas, officials said.

  • Heat wave likely over Northern plains including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi in next 2 days: IMD

Severe heat wave conditions were observed at isolated places over northeast Rajasthan as well, it said.

  • Weather will change again in the state, rain in many areas including Bastar division

The weather in Chhattisgarh continues to change these days. It is raining with thunderstorms. The Meteorological Department has released forecasts for Friday and Saturday. Meteorologist HP Chandra has stated that a cyclonic cyclone of upper air is located 1.5 km to 3.1 km altitude in and around coastal Andhra Pradesh. Due to this, adequate amount of moisture is coming in the state. Due to this effect, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected to splash in some places in the state on Friday. The area and quantity of rainfall is likely to remain high in Bastar division and its adjoining districts. The state is expected to remain partly cloudy on 20 February. The weather is likely to remain dry. Special changes in minimum temperatures are unlikely.

  • Considering the changes in the weather, agronomists advised – Keep care of Rabi crops

In view of the changes in the weather for the last two-three days, the Agricultural Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast for the plains of Chhattisgarh. According to this, the speed of wind will be more than normal in Balaud, Raipur, Durg, Dhamtari and Gariaband districts. Wind speed is likely to be five to six kilometers per hour. Along with this, light rain is also expected in these plains in the coming three to four days. In view of the situation, farmers have been given necessary advice for the Rabi crop.

According to the advice, light rain in the present is beneficial for wheat crop, so do not irrigate when water falls. Chana and other pulses crops under the Rabi crop are prone to insects and pests. In view of this, use recommended pesticides as soon as the weather is clear. For control of chickpeas in gram, spraying of Profenofas and Spermethrin mixed insecticide at 200 ml per acre is sprayed in 200 liters of water.

Worms in paddy crop may increase due to being cloudy. So keep monitoring it continuously. For early pest control, use integrated pest management such as pheromone traps, light prunches or field-grown T or Y-shaped wood in individual locations at a rate of 20-25 nos per hectare to increase activity.

Both mustard and adult stages of aphid pest in mustard crop. In order to control outbreaks of this pest, imidacloprid 17.8 SL at the rate of 250 ml per hectare should be sprayed at an interval of 10-15 days two to three times as required. In the mustard crop, if symptoms of disease appear on the lower leaves, spray Metalexisal at the rate of one gram per liter of water. Depending on the severity of the disease, a spraying may be done after 10–12 days.

  • The weather came again, rain in Kavardha, Kawardha, Pandra-Gorella-Marwahi region

Due to the sudden change in the weather, where an increase in temperature was recorded, today Kawardha and Pendra-Gorella-Marwahi received heavy rainfall. Due to this, the temperature dropped. According to the information received from the correspondent, rain has been recorded in the Amarkantak hills ahead of Pandra and in the forested areas. Similarly, hailstorm is reported in Kawardha district with rain. Changes in the weather have raised concerns on the faces of farmers as the rabi crop, especially pulses and oilseeds, is likely to be damaged by sudden rains. The Janjgir-Champa region has been witnessing high winds since morning. There is a possibility of rains in the interior of Bilaspur and Surguja divisions after noon.

  • Construction of 7 thousand 606 concrete platforms to prevent weather, rats and termites in the collection centers

By adopting cheap, traditional and unique tricks of crop protection, Chhattisgarh has shown a cult and many kaja proverbs. Every year a large quantity of paddy purchased in the collection centers was spoiled due to moisture, rain, hail, rats and termites, while this time special pucca platforms were built in these centers to prevent this damage is. These platforms have been constructed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme during the Corona-period. This also created employment opportunities on a large scale.

On the initiative of Bhupesh Baghel, this new system has been made in Chhattisgarh to protect the paddy purchased from farmers this year. A total of 7606 platforms have been constructed in all the districts. The state government has purchased a record paddy worth more than 93 lakh metric tons this year. Since Chhattisgarh became a separate state, it has purchased most of the paddy from farmers. It is also a big challenge to preserve such a large amount of paddy purchased. Large number of pucca platforms made this year in paddy collection centers are helping to keep them safe.

  • Changes in the weather, drizzle and somewhere cold

This increased the cold, but due to the cloud, the temperature increased. The weather has been changing since the beginning of this month. Throughout the day, the sun remained hidden in the clouds and in some places, there were rainy splashes. Chill has increased due to cold. Its effect is also visible on the market.

  • BBL 2020 Hurricanes Vs Sixers Live Stream, Pitch And Weather Report, Match Preview

The Hobart Hurricanes will go up against the Sydney Sixers in the inaugural match of the Big Bash League 2020. The Hurricanes vs Sixers match is scheduled to begin at 1:45 pm IST from the Bellerive Oval, Hobart on December 10. Here are the Hurricanes vs Sixers live stream details, how to watch Hurricanes vs Sixers live in India and the pitch and weather report for the contest.

The Hobart Hurricanes will take on the defending champions Sydney Sixers in the first BBL game of 2020. Hobart, the 2018-19 table-toppers, will be aiming for their first title this year. Adelaide Strikers, Perth Scorchers, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder will be the six other teams competing for the title of the tenth title of the BBL. This year, the organizers have introduced three new, slightly contentious, rules to make the tournament more exciting.

These include introducing an X-factor player after the 10th over as a batsman, bowler or fielder. A special two-over power play called the ‘power surge’, which allows the batting team to play with just two fielders outside the inner ring in the second half of an innings. The last rule change is the ‘bash boost,’ an extra point awarded to the team with the best 10-over score at the end of the game.
