  • Nitin Gadkari Confirms That Elon Musk’s Tesla Motors Will Be Coming To India In 2021

    Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari confirmed that Elon Musk’s Tesla Motors will enter India in 2021. Gadkari said that the American electric car major is set to start its operations in India next year, adding that the company would also look at setting up a manufacturing unit based on demand.

    Tesla Inc. co-founder and chief executive Elon Musk had in December 27 said the company will enter the Indian market in 2021 when he replied to a Twitter user about Tesla’s possible entry in the country. Musk had said ‘but definitely this year,’ while replying to a query on Tesla’s India plans on Twitter.

    Stressing that India has a power surplus, Gadkari said the benefits of e-mobility solutions are immense here. “The Centre intends to have an electric vehicle sales penetration of 30 per cent for private cars, 70 per cent for commercial cars, 40 per cent for buses, and 80 per cent for two and three-wheelers by 2030 by providing various incentives, which are likely to drive the growth of EV market in India,” Gadkari said.

  • Dixon to manufacture smartphones for Motorola in Noida plant

    Dixon Technologies’ wholly-owned subsidiary Padget Electronics has signed an agreement with Motorola for manufacturing of smart phones at its facility in Noida bordering the national capital.

    Padget is one of the few companies which recently received approval from the government under the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme.In October, the government had cleared 16 proposals from domestic and international companies entailing an investment of Rs 11,000 crore under the PLI scheme to manufacture mobile phones worth Rs 10.5 lakh crore over the next five years.

  • Amid Escalating Tensions, China Warns Of Action After US Blacklists 59 Chinese Firms

    China has decided to lock horns with the United States as they threaten countermeasures after Washington blacklisted 59 Chinese firms, including Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) and SZ DJI Technology Co Ltd on Friday. This has escalated tensions between the countries once again, at the time of Donald Trump’s last few weeks in office. The US Commerce Department had announced their move to blacklist the Chinese firms to protect “national security”.

    The US Commerce Department alleges that this step has been taken due to China’s military-civil fusion doctrine and evidence of activities between SMIC and entities of concern in the Chinese military-industrial complex, Bloomberg reported.

  • India is offering financial incentives to Samsung for setting up display factory

    India’s one of the largest states, Uttar Pradesh, has confirmed that it will be providing financial incentives to the South Korean giant Samsung Electronics to set up a display factory in the region, which is expected to cost about $655 million.

    In a statement given to the media, the state of Uttar Pradesh has claimed that the company is moving its factory from China to India. This is being viewed as a move that will help boost the Make in India initiative that aims to project India as a manufacturing hub.

    Samsung will be getting 7 billion rupees in financial benefits for setting up the display plant. On top of that, the state government has also confirmed that the company will get an exemption from a tax payable on the transfer of land for the factory.

    The unit is expected to be operational from next year, but the exact timeline is not yet known. Once the factory starts operations, it is expected to create 510 direct jobs. It’s noteworthy that Samsung already has the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturing plant in Uttar Pradesh, India.

  • SII CEO Poonawalla makes big announcement after PM Modi visit

    Hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Pune-based pharma company Serum Institute of India (SII) on Saturday (November 28), the company’s CEO Adar Poonawalla said that his company will seek permission for emergency use authorization of ‘Covishield’ in the next two weeks.

    Few days, SII CEO Poonawalla had said that that the company is focused on supplying vaccines to India first. “It is very important we take care of our country first, then go on to Covax after that and then other bilateral deals with countries. So I’ve kept it in that priority,” Poonawalla had told reporters.

    “I am delighted to hear that, Covishield, a low-cost, logistically manageable & soon to be widely available, #COVID19 vaccine, will offer protection up to 90% in one type of dosage regime and 62% in the other dosage regime. Further details on this, will be provided this evening,” Adar Poonawalla had tweeted on November 23.

    “As of now, we do not have anything in writing with the government of India on how many doses they will purchase but the indication is that it would be 300-400 million doses by July 2021,” he added.

    Earlier on Saturday, PM Modi visited the SII facility in Pune and met Poonawalla and his team. “Had a good interaction with the team at Serum Institute of India. They shared details about their progress so far on how they plan to further ramp up vaccine manufacturing. Also took a look at their manufacturing facility,” PM Modi tweeted.

  • PM Modi to visit 3 Covid-19 vaccine facilities today to review preparedness

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Saturday embark on a three-city tour across the country to review the progress of the coronavirus vaccines that are being developed at three noted pharmaceutical facilities in India.

    Making the announcement on Twitter, the Prime Minister’s Office said that Modi will visit Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Pune to check out the vaccine development work at the facilities there.

    “Tomorrow, PM Narendra Modi will embark on a 3 city visit to personally review the vaccine development & manufacturing process. He will visit the Zydus Biotech Park in Ahmedabad, Bharat Biotech in Hyderabad & Serum Institute of India in Pune. As India enters a decisive phase of the fight against COVID-19, PM @narendramodis visit to these facilities & discussions with the scientists will help him get a first-hand perspective of the preparations, challenges & roadmap in Indias endeavour to vaccinate its citizens,” the PMO tweeted.

    This will be the Prime Minister’s first visit to pharma major Zydus Cadila’s plant near Ahmedabad, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said earlier in the day. 

    The PM will arrive at the plant in the Changodar industrial area, over 20 kms from Ahmedabad, around 9:30 am.  

    Zydus had earlier announced that the Phase-I clinical trial of their vaccine candidate ‘ZyCoV-D’ was complete and the Phase-II trials had commenced in August. 

    From there, he will fly to Hyderabad to visit the Bharat Biotech facility around 1:30 pm. The PM will land at Hakimpet Air Force station and proceed to the facility in Genome Valley, roughly 50 kms from Hyderabad. Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin is currently undergoing Phase-3 trials.

    He said, the government will give a production-linked incentive (PLI) of two lakh crore rupees in 10 sectors to encourage domestic manufacturing. This scheme will make Indian manufacturers globally competitive, attract investment and increase exports. This will increase production, exports and employment.

    He said that the benefit of production-based incentive scheme would be available to investors in industries like refrigerators, products like washing machines, medicines, special types of steel, vehicles, telecommunications, textiles, food products, solar photovoltaic and mobile phone batteries.
