  • Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi reveals why MP’s Bicharpur is called ‘Mini Brazil’

    By ANI

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took to his monthly platform, Mann Ki Baat, to spread the message of football, more specifically, that of a small town in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district, called Bicharpur, that has transformed itself from a hotbed of illicit liquor and narcotics to a “Mini Brazil”.

The PM said on Mann Ki Baat as quoted by an All India Football Federation (AIFF) press release, “This is the inspiring journey of Mini Brazil. You must be thinking that from where Mini Brazil came in Madhya Pradesh, well, that is the twist. In MP, Bicharpur is a village in Shahdol. Bicharpur is called Mini Brazil. ‘Mini Brazil’, since, today this village has become a stronghold of the rising stars of football. When I had gone to Shahdol a few weeks ago, I met many such football players there. I felt that our countrymen and especially our young friends must know about this.”

pic.twitter.com/AVSeAVcTs2

“The journey of Bicharpur village to become Mini Brazil commenced two-and-a-half decades ago. During that time, Bicharpur village was infamous for illicit liquor. it was in the grip of intoxication. The biggest brunt of this kind of environment was being borne by the youth here,” he further said.

It was in fact, the beautiful game, that helped the village haul itself out of its miserable state, helped by Raees Ahmed, a former footballer, and a coach.

“Raees Ahmed recognised the talent of these youngsters. Raees ji did not have many resources, but he started teaching football to the youth with full dedication. Within a few years, football became so popular that Bicharpur village itself was identified with football,” said the PM.

“Now a programme called Football Kranti is also going on here. Under this programme, youth are connected with this game and they are given training. This programme has been so successful that more than 40 national and state-level players have emerged from Bicharpur,” he added.

Now, with the Football Kranti programme is on in full swing, more than 1,200 clubs have formed in the Shahdol district.

“This football revolution is now slowly spreading in the entire region. More than 1200 football clubs have been formed in Shahdol and its surrounding areas. A large number of players have emerged from here, who are playing at the national level. Today, many noted former football players and coaches are imparting training to the youth here. Just imagine a tribal area which was known for illicit liquor, infamous for drug addiction, has now become the Football Nursery of the country,” said the PM.

“That is why it is said – where there is a will, there is a way. There is no dearth of talent in our country. There is certainly a need to find and nurture them. Subsequently, these youth also bring laurels to the country and lend direction to the development of the country as well,” he added.

Madhya Pradesh Football Association Honorary Secretary Amit Dev said, “The PM’s words have come as a great boost for Madhya Pradesh football and the sport in general. We are grateful to him for his encouraging speech. The village of Bicharpur has done a great job in promoting the game. We will work harder to take the game ahead with this initiative”.

  • 36 PGIMER nursing students face action for missing 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’

    By PTI

CHANDIGARH: Thirty-six students of PGIMER’s National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE) here were barred from leaving hostel for a week for not attending a programme where the 100th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ was broadcast.

The hospital authorities had made it compulsory for the first and third-year students to listen to the radio broadcast on April 30 at the institute.

However, 36 girl students from NINE didn’t turn up.

Following this, the nursing college authorities issued an order on May 3 informing the students — 28 from the third year and eight from the first year — that they would not be allowed to step out of the hostel for a week.

PGIMER issued a statement late Thursday evening on “banning the outing of the nursing students after classes in evening due to non-attending the Mann Ki Baat programme..”.

It was a little “overreaction” on part of the nursing college authorities and “the concerned have already been conveyed the displeasure of PGIMER administration”, it said.

“So we humbly urge that the issue should not be given any other connotation or blown out of proportion in the larger public interest,” the statement issued to the media by Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research here, said.

The NINE authorities had recently conveyed to the first and third-year students that it was compulsory for them to listen to the 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ at lecture theatre-1 on April 30, the May 3 notice stated.

The students were also warned that outings of those who do not attend the programme would be cancelled, it said.

However, despite repeated reminders from the warden and the hostel coordinator, these students did not attend, the notice said.

The PGIMER statement said, “This is to clarify that nursing students from National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), a premier nursing college of the country and producing best nursing professionals, were asked to attend the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme on April 30..”.

“This instruction was given purely with an intent to enable them to attend the aforementioned episode as a part of their regular curricular activities wherein talks, guest lectures and discussions are arranged regularly by best speakers, experts, professionals to impart them value education.

“Rather, in an earlier episode, the Hon’ble Prime Minister had interacted with an organ donor family, a case of transplantation from PGIMER, to promote the noble cause of organ donation, which was hugely morale boosting and invigorated more interest in the episode,” the statement said.

The statement further said since some of the students did not share any reason for not attending the session and abstained from the event arranged for them in a lecture theatre, the college authorities took action against them.

  • ‘PM conducting ‘Mann ki Baat’ 100th episode while depriving Bengal of MGNREGA funds’

    By PTI

KARANDIGHI: Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Monday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio broadcast and said while its 100th episode was heralded with great fanfare, the poor masses of Bengal were deprived of Central funds under the 100-day MGNREGA scheme.

In the 100th episode of ‘Mann ki Baat’, Modi on Sunday said the broadcast filled the “emptiness” he felt after coming to Delhi in 2014 and described it as an expression of the feelings of crores of Indians which has ensured he is never cut-off from people.

“On the one hand, the prime minister is busy conducting the 100th episode of the Mann ki Baat programme, and the Centre, out of vendetta, has stopped the funds due to Bengal.

“They are depriving the poor people of West Bengal by denying MGNREGA funds to Bengal. It (BJP) is trying to punish the state’s people for their defeat in the last assembly poll in 2021. It is yet to accept the defeat,” he said while addressing a rally in Uttar Dinajpur district.

Banerjee, the TMC national general secretary, while addressing a rally as part of the ‘Trinamool-eh Nabajowar’ (new wave in Trinamool) mass outreach campaign, criticised the BJP MPs from West Bengal for being party to the conspiracy in withholding the dues of the state.

“People are failing to get roti and bhaat (rice) while the PM is conducting the Mann ki Baat programme. West Bengal is the only state where funds have been stopped. Lakhs of poor people across the state are affected due to non-payment of dues by the Centre. The MPs and MLAs of BJP from the state are also part of this conspiracy to withhold funds,” he said.

Banerjee’s remark drew sharp reactions from the BJP, which dubbed the allegations as baseless.

“The BJP has no role in stopping funds. The TMC has a habit of levelling baseless allegations. The people of the state disagree with such canards spread by the TMC,” BJP state spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said.

  • BJP targets 4 lakh venues for people to listen to 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: The BJP is going all out to make the 100th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio broadcast an “unprecedented” mass outreach programme and will make arrangements at 100 venues on average in every assembly constituency across the country for people to listen to it.

The BJP said it will make arrangements at around four lakh places across the country for people to hear Modi’s address, with party president JP Nadda overseeing the entire exercise to make it a “historic” success. Overseas Indians around the world will also listen to ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the party said in a statement.

The 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ will be broadcast on Sunday.

“In order to make the broadcast of the 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ historic and to give it a comprehensive format, the Bharatiya Janata Party has released a detailed programme under which unprecedented arrangements are being made for its telecast at about 4 lakh booth level centres across the country,” BJP national general secretary Dushyant Gautam said.

The party’s overseas units and several non-political organisations have been roped in to ensure that the radio broadcast also has the maximum outreach abroad, he added.

In all Raj Bhavans, official residences of governors, and the homes of chief ministers of the BJP or its allies, arrangements have been made for eminent citizens to listen to the programme, party sources said.

Padma awardees from all states have been invited to attend the events at Raj Bhavans, they said.

BJP MPs and MLAs will be in their respective constituencies to oversee the exercise, with Nadda and other senior party leaders holding a number of video conferences in this regard.

“It will be organised on a large scale in more than 100 places in every Vidhan Sabha, in which local MPs, MLAs, other elected public representatives, senior party functionaries and party workers are involved in the coordination of the programme,” Gautam said.

Along with this, civil society, various social and other organisations from across the country are also coming forward to participate, he said.

Nadda, Union Minister Amit Shah and other senior BJP leaders will participate in these events at different locations in the country, he added.

“Responsibilities have been given to all MPs, MLAs and elected public representatives of the party to make the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme successful. The party’s state office-bearers have been given the responsibility of one district each,” Gautam said.

Modi speaks on a variety of issues during his monthly radio programme which is broadcast on the last Sunday of every month. The programme started in 2014, when the BJP government came to power, and has been going on since.

This programme is “completely non-political” and its prevalence as well as acceptability can be gauged from the fact that it is broadcast in 52 Indian languages and dialects as well as 11 foreign languages, Gautam said. “This programme is the most popular programme today,” he said.

With ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the prime minister has been successful in creating an emotional connect with the listeners, Gautam said. “This is the reason why the trust of the general public of the country in the decisive leadership of Modi ji is increasing day by day,” the BJP leader said.

“The number of listeners of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ is increasing day by day due to the guidance that the prime minister gives to the citizens through direct communication and inspiring stories,” he added.
