Lucknow (UP): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flayed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Raja, Maharaja remarks and said that accidental Hindu cannot feel pride in India’s heritage. “People who do not know the history and geography of India will definitely make such irrelevant comments. When I talk about Rahul Gandhi, I remember that once these people called themselves accidental Hindus. India has a rich tradition and our sages, Maharajas, and every section of the society have contributed in their respective fields. Rahul ji never remembered the atrocities of the Mughals, who left no stone unturned to Islamise India. It is unfortunate that those who call themselves accidental Hindus cannot feel pride about India’s heritage.”

Uniform Civil Code Bill In Uttarakhand Assembly Today: Check Key Features |
In a major development, the Uttarakhand Assembly bill will take up the Uniform Civil Code Bill for discussion and passing today. The UCC draft was approved by the Uttarakhand Cabinet led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday. The common civil code bill proposes uniform civil laws for all communities in the state. The assembly proceeding will begin at 11 am today. The UCC will provide a legal framework for uniform marriage, divorce, land, property and inheritance laws for all citizens, irrespective of their religion.
A committee appointed by the Uttarakhand government, headed by retired Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, has compiled a comprehensive four-volume report spanning 749 pages, offering a multitude of recommendations. The committee actively sought public input through 2.33 lakh written submissions online and conducted over 70 public forums. Through these forums, the panel members actively interacted with approximately 60,000 individuals, incorporating their perspectives and insights into the drafting process.
Key Features Of The UCC
Equal Property Rights
The Uniform Civil Code proposes to provide equal rights in property for both sons and daughters. The property right will stand even if the girl marries in any other religion. A 2005 amendment in the Hindu Succession Act 1956 already provides for married daughters to have an equal share as a son in their father’s property.
Legitimate And Illegitimate Children
The Uttarakhand UCC bill also aims to abolish the distinction between legitimate and illegitimate children concerning property rights. The bill specifies that all children would be recognised as the biological offspring of the parents and would have equal rights. Also, the bill gives equal footing and rights to children who are adopted, born through surrogacy, or born through assisted reproductive technology. The adoption process will be the same for all religions under the law.
Property Rights After Death
In the aftermath of an individual’s passing, the legislation ensures equitable property rights for both the spouse and children. Notably, this inclusive provision also extends such rights to the deceased person’s parents. This represents a significant departure from prior legal frameworks, where exclusive property rights were granted solely to the mother in the event of the individual’s demise.
Equal Divorce Rights, Maintenance
The UCC bill also provides for an equal divorce process and rights to men and women of every religion in the state. The Muslim Women Act, 2019 brought by the Narendra Modi government has already made instant triple talaq illegal. The maintenance law after divorce will be the same for all religions.
Ban On Polygamy, Child Marriage
The bill also makes marriage registration mandatory for all religions. It also bans polygamy and child marriage, a common marriageable age for girls across all faiths. The bill also makes it mandatory to declare live-in relationships.
Ban On Halala And Iddat
The UCC bill seeks to ban Islamic practices such as halala and iddat which are considered unfair for women. Halala and iddat are Islamic practices a woman must go through after a divorce or the death of her husband.

Plea in Supreme Court challenges Centre’s new panel to examine SC status for Dalit converts
Express News Service
NEW DELHI: A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the centre’s decision to appoint a three-member commission, headed by former Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan which has been tasked to consider the possibility of granting Scheduled Caste (SC) status to “new persons who have historically belonged to the Scheduled Castes’’ but have converted to religions other than Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism.
Justice KG Balakrishna was appointed by the centre on October 7, 2022, during the pendency of a plea in SC seeking scheduled caste status for Dalit Christian and Muslim converts. Currently, as per the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950 only Dalits of Hindus, Sikh and Buddhist faith can be categorised as SCs.
The pleas that are currently pending before SC argue that the exclusion of Christian and Muslim Dalits from the list of Scheduled Caste was discriminatory. Recently, the centre in the pleas had told SC that the government had taken a decision to not accept Justice Mishra’s report. Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission’s 2007 report for Religious and Linguistic Minorities had recommended permitting Dalits who converted to Islam and Christianity to avail of SC status.
The plea challenging centre’s recent decision has been filed by practising advocate, social activist and secretary of Pragat Padhividhar Sanghatna (PPS), a social and educational Trust who said he was a Christian of Scheduled Caste origin, belonging to the Mahar community.
It has been argued in the plea Union government has over the years formed multiple Commissions, dating back to the first Backward Classes Commission (1955), on this subject that have already pronounced the need for according to SC status to Dalits who have converted to Islam or Christianity.
“The apprehension of the petitioner is that if the present commission is allowed, the hearing on the main petition may be further delayed causing irreparable damage to the Christians of Scheduled caste origin, who are denied this SC privileges for the last 72 years. It is also affecting the fundamental rights of the affected community, giving speedy justice is mandatory as per Article 21,” the plea states.

Concept of jihad not just in Islam but also in Gita, Christianity: Shivraj Patil
By PTI
NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Shivraj Patil on Thursday claimed that the concept of jihad was not just in Islam but also in Bhagavad Gita and in Christianity.
The BJP hit out at the Congress over Patil’s remarks and accused it of playing vote bank politics.
Speaking at the launch of Congress veteran and former Union minister Mohsina Kidwai’s biography, the former Lok Sabha Speaker and Union minister Patil stated that it is said there is a lot of discussion of jihad in the religion of Islam.
The concept comes to the fore when despite having the right intentions and doing the right thing, nobody understands or reciprocates, then it is said one can use force, he said.
“It is not just in Quran, but in Mahabharata also, the part in Gita, Shri Krishna also talks of jihad to Arjun and this thing is not just in Quran or Gita but also in Christianity,” he claimed in his remarks in Hindi.
“If after explaining everything, people are not understanding, they are coming with weapons then you cannot run, you cannot call that jihad and you cannot call it wrong, this is what must be understood, there should not be this concept of making people understand with weapons in hand,” the 87-year-old leader said.
Patil further said Mohsina Kidwai’s book also talks about respecting all religions while following your own. He also said there is a need for peace in the world.
Hitting out at the Congress over Patil’s remarks, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said in a tweet, “After AAP’s Gopal Italia & Rajendra Pal, not to be outdone in Hindu hatred & votebank politics, Congress’ Shivraj Patil says Shri Krishna taught ‘Jihad’ to Arjun! “Congress coined Hindu/Saffron terror, opposed Ram Mandir,Questioned Ram JI’s existence, said Hindutva=ISIS,” Poonawalla tweeted.
In his speech, Patil also said he voted for Mallikarjun Kharge in the Congress presidential polls.
He, however, mistakenly referred to Kharge as Khandelwal a couple of times in the speech.
Patil spoke at length and talked about disparate topics in his address.

8 held by UP Police for illegal conversion charged with waging war against India
Express News Service
LUCKNOW: Eight persons, who were arrested by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh Police since June, for being allegedly involved in illegal conversions of over 1,000 people, have been charged with “waging war against India”.
Accepting the application of the ATS, the special Lucknow court invoked the charges under Section 121-A (conspiracy to commit offences punishable by section 121) and 123 (concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war) of the IPC against the eight arrested persons.
IPC Section 121 deals with waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India.
Initially, state ATS had appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Lucknow to seek permission to include Sections 121A and 123 in the FIR against the accused.
The CJM, however, found that the local court does not have the authority to pass decisions relating to sections 121 and 123 of the IPC.
The ATS then moved to the Special Court with their appeal to include the consequential sections of the IPC. While allowing the inclusion of the said sections, the court posted the matter for next hearing on September 14.
In its application, the ATS claimed that during the investigation, it was found that the group was not just involved in illegal conversion, but the accused also wanted to disrupt the population balance and create a rift among people of different religions.

On June 21 this year, UP ATS had zeroed in two clerics — Mohammad Umar Gautam and Mufti Qazi Jahageer Alam Qasmi — from Delhi and claimed to have busted a “huge conversion racket” that was allegedly involved in the conversion of “thousands of people”. The ATS had claimed that the two clerics were spearheading mass conversion of people into Islam through inducements such as marriage, money, job and coercion also.
The two clerics and the orgainsation owned by Mohammad Umar Gautam – Islamic Dawah Centre India—were booked under Sections 420, 120B, 153A, 153B, 295 and 511of India Penal Code. Even section 3/5 of UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religious Act-2021 was also imposed on the two.
UP ATS later arrested eight more persons claiming that the accused had carried out large-scale conversions under the banner of the Islamic Dawah Centre (IDC), which allegedly targeted children with disabilities, women, the unemployed, and the poor.
Of the 10 persons arrested, four are from Maharashtra, two from Delhi and one each from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Haryana.
The eight against whom IPC sections 121-A and 123 have been invoked include Mohammad Umar Gautam, Mufti Qazi Jahageer Alam Qasmi, Salahuddin Zainuddin Sheikh, Irfan Sheikh alias Irfan Khan, Dr Faraz, Prasad Rameshwar Kaware alias Adam, Bhupriya Bando alias Arsalan and Kausar Alam.
The ATS claimed they had enough evidence to invoke Sections 121-A and 123 against the eight accused, and also submitted a case diary to the court.
Uttar Pradesh had passed the anti-conversion bill earlier this year. The bill penalises those who undertake conversions through marriage, deceit, coercion or incitement.

Muslim outfits welcome SC’s decision to dismiss Rizvi’s plea seeking removal of Quran verses
By PTI
LUCKNOW: Muslim clerics and organisations on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision of rejecting a plea seeking removal of 26 verses from the Quran, saying this proves that religious books are treated with honour in the country. The apex court termed as “absolutely frivolous” the petition filed by former Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board chairman Waseem Rizvi and dismissed it with a cost of Rs 50,000.
“We welcome the decision of the Supreme Court. This proves that religious books are being treated with honour in the country. It will increase the confidence of Muslims in the Constitution and in the judiciary,” All India Muslim Personal Law Board member Mulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahali told PTI.
He also demanded that the government take strict action against Rizvi so that “no one can raise questions on religious books in the future”.
FULL REPORT | ‘Absolutely frivolous’: Supreme Court on Rizvi’s plea to remove Quran verses, hands Rs 50,000 fine
All India Shia Personal Law Board spokesperson Maulana Yasoob Abbas said that they congratulate Muslims of the country on this verdict.
“We trust our judiciary and it will continue to give justice in the future too so that no one can raise a finger on Islam or any other religion,” he said.
On Monday, a bench of Justices R F Nariman B R Gavai and Hrishikesh Roy rejected the petition in which Rizvi alleged that these 26 verses of Quran promoted terrorism.
In his plea, Rizvi stated that Islam is based on the concepts of equity, equality, forgiveness and tolerance but due to extreme interpretations of the said verses of the holy book, the religion has been drifting away from the basic tenets.
Majlist Ulema-e-Hind’s general secretary Maulana Kalbe Jawwad termed the Supreme Court’s decision “historic” and said it will increase the trust of Muslims in the Constitution.
“I expected the same from the Supreme Court. It will be a lesson for forces creating disturbances. By imposing a cost, the court stopped other such elements from doing such things in the future,” he said.
Jawwad demanded strict action against Rizvi.
Terming Rizvi an “opportunist”, he said, “I hope he will be sent to jail soon for corruption in Waqf properties in his regime.
Last month, an FIR was registered in Bareilly against Rizvi for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of Muslims with his petition in the top court.
The FIR was registered at the Kotwali police station following complaints by Anjuman Khuddam-e-Rasool secretary Shan Ahmed and an organisation known as Ittehad-e-Millat council.
