  • Ukrainian ballet dancer Artyom Datsishin dies three weeks after getting injured in Russian shellings

    KYIV: Ukrainian ballet star Artyom Datsishin has lost his life amid Russia’s ongoing military operation in the Eastern European country.

    Datsishin passed away on Thursday from wounds he suffered in Russian shelling weeks earlier. He was 43, news portal People reported after obtaining the information from Evening Standard. Datsishin was a principal dancer with the National Opera of Ukraine. He would be cremated on Friday in Kyiv.

    A few days ago, Ukraine bid farewell to actress Oksana Shvets who was killed in a Russian rocket attack on a residential building in the capital city.

    On February 24, Russia began a military operation in Ukraine, responding to calls for help from the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Luhansk in countering the aggression of Ukrainian troops. The Russian Defense Ministry said the special operation is targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure only.

    According to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, almost 600 civilians have been killed and more than 1,000 injured in Ukraine since the start of the conflict. 

  • Jackson saves Kerala from defeat, stops East Bengal on draw

    Jackson Singh’s goal in injury time helped Kerala Blasters prevent East Bengal from their first win in the seventh season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) and held them to a 1–1 draw. East Bengal retained a 1-0 lead in the first half with a goal goal from a Bakrey corner until injury time, but Jackson missed the first win of the season by scoring a goal in injury time to save Kerala from defeat. This is the second draw in East Bengal’s six matches. The team now has two points and has now reached number 10 in the table.

    The team has also lost four. Kerala has been drawn for the third time in six matches and is now at number nine with three points. Kerala has got three defeats so far. In the 13th minute, Kerala’s Bakery corner unfortunately gave the ball into his own net. It seemed that Nishu Kumar, playing his 50th match in IASL, also had a hand in this suicide goal, but this corner goal gave East Bengal a 1-0 lead within the first 15 minutes. Six minutes of extra time was added to the injury time and Jackson scored with an assist from Sahal Abdul Samad to equalize Kerala 1–1 and prevent East Bengal from registering their first win of the season.

  • Moises Henriques added to Australia’s squad for first Test, Sean Abbott ruled out

    Moises Henriques has joined the Test squad as cover for Cameron Green even as Australia’s injury woes continued with Sean Abbott ruled out of the first Test in Adelaide. Abbott had picked up a calf strain in the day-night tour match at the SCG on Saturday. He will remain in Sydney to continue his rehabilitation but is expected to join the squad for the second Test.

    One good news coming in for Australia was that Green was making steady progress in his recovery from the mild concussion he suffered during the SCG tour game. Green, Henriques and Mitchell Starc were among the Australian players flying into Adelaide together on Monday on the same charter plane that dropped the Indian touring party from Sydney to South Australia.

    Henriques, Cricket Australia said, recovered from a mild hamstring strain which had ruled him out of the Australia A game against the Indians, at the SCG. He passed a fitness test on Monday to join the injury-hit squad. Henriques had made a comeback during the recent ODIs and T20Is against India after over three years, having last played in 2016
