  • 10 children fall ill after consuming food at wedding function in UP’s Badaun

    BAUDAUN: Ten children were hospitalised following complaints of vomiting and stomach ache after consuming food at a wedding function here, a health department official said on Monday.

    The suspected case of food poisoning took place in Ushait area on Sunday, Chief Medical Officer Pradeep Varshney said.

    The children have been admitted to a district hospital, he said, adding that they are now out of danger.

    The health and food departments of the district administration have collected samples of the food that was served at the function, Varshney said.

    A probe has been launched into the matter, he said.

  • Chhattisgarh: 26 ITBP jawans fall ill after consuming food at camp in Rajnandgaon

    RAIPUR: In a suspected case of food poisoning, 26 personnel of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) fell ill with after consuming meal at their camp in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district, officials said on Friday.

    While 21 of them were admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Khairagarh town of the district on Thursday evening, five others were hospitalised this morning, and the condition of all of them is said to be out of danger, a police official said.

    All of them belong to the ITBP’s 40th battalion and were stationed in Malaida camp of the security forces located in a Naxal-hit area along the Chhattisgarh-Madhya Pradesh border, around 150 kms away from capital Raipur, he said.

    “On Wednesday night, the ITBP jawans had dinner in the mess of the camp and consumed meat and paneer. Next day, some of them complained of diarrhoea and vomiting following which, 21 personnel were rushed to CHC Khairagarh, while five more personnel were admitted there this morning,” he said.

    The condition of all of them was reported to be out of danger, he added.

    “Prima facie, it seems that they fell sick due to food poisoning. However, the condition of all of them is stable and they were kept under observation,” Dr Vivek Bisen of the CHC Khairagarh told PTI.

    A medical team has been sent to the camp to ensure that if more jawans fall ill, they are provided immediate treatment, he said.

    Meanwhile, state Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has directed Rajanandagon Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) to provide better medical treatment to the ill jawans, an official statement said.

  • 45 villagers hospitalised after suspected food poisoning in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal

    YAVATMAL: At least 45 people have been hospitalised after allegedly suffering from food poisoning in a village in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district, an official said on Tuesday.

    Residents of Anjinaik village in Arni tehsil consumed food at a funeral on Monday, following which they complained of stomach ache, diarrhoea and vomiting, he said.

    The affected villagers were taken to Bhambora primary health centre, from where a few of them were shifted to a rural government hospital after their condition deteriorated, while a woman and a child were shifted to Yavatmal government hospital, the official said, adding that more details are awaited.

  • Two-year-old dead, several babies ill due to food poisoning at shelter home in Bengal’s Nadia

    RANAGHAT: A two-year-old baby died and seven others fell ill at a shelter home in West Bengal’s Nadia district on Monday allegedly due to food poisoning, officials said.

    The incident happened at the shelter home in Ranaghat’s Rabindra Sarani area, District Magistrate Partha Ghosh said.

    The shelter home is run by NGO State Adopted Agency and total 16 babies live there, he said.

    However, sources said that the number of babies taken ill is more and the toll may rise as a few babies are critical.

    They are undergoing treatment at the Ranaghat Anulia Hospital, Ghosh said.

    The babies started falling ill after having food on Sunday night, officials said.

    Babies abandoned by their parents are provided shelter at the home, local sources said, adding that babies as young as six months are kept there.

    The home has the provision to provide shelter to ten babies but it houses more, they said.

    Childless couples can adopt babies from this shelter home, they added.

    The district magistrate dismissed the allegation of child trafficking at the shelter home, maintaining that they are looking into the incident of food poisoning.

  • UP: 29 people taken ill in Kannauj after eating ‘prasad’

    KANNAUJ: Twenty nine people were admitted to a hospital when they complained of stomach ache after having ‘prasad’ during a religious function here, police said on Sunday.

    A ‘Bhagwat Khata’ was organised at Jukhaya village here on Saturday night after which people ate ‘prasad’ at a ‘Bhandara’ following which they complained of stomach ache and were taken to the district hospital, police said.

    Their condition was stated to be out of danger, police said.

    District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Mishra said all those admitted were fine and a team of doctors has also been sent to the village.

    Senior district administration officials have also been rushed to the village to keep an eye on the situation.

    The doctors said those admitted had suffered food poisoning.
