In a strategic move to fine-tune their game, India’s Under-18 men’s and women’s hockey squads will clash with Australia in a blockbuster four-match series at Bhopal’s Udhav Das Mehta Central Centre from May 15-20. Coming right after the National Coaching Camp started April 19 at SAI Bhopal, this face-off is perfectly timed before the Under-18 Asia Cup in Kakamigahara later this month.
Both teams follow the same schedule: opening fixtures on May 15, then May 17, 18, and concluding on May 20. It’s a packed week of high-stakes action designed to simulate tournament pressure.
Men’s coach Sardar Singh praised the camp’s intensity. ‘Players showed great spirit at SAI Bhopal,’ he noted. ‘We concentrated on core techniques for all roles, equipping them for contemporary hockey and senior transitions.’
Looking ahead, Singh added, ‘These exposure games against Australia are pivotal. They’ll deliver top-tier international experience, perfect team synergy, and help pick the ideal lineup for the Asia Cup.’
Women’s coach Rani Rampal was optimistic: ‘The SAI Bhopal camp allowed solid player engagement. Matches versus Australia’s U18 side offer elite competition, Asia Cup readiness, and a platform for individuals to shine.’
This series underscores India’s commitment to youth development, potentially unearthing stars who could carry the nation’s hockey legacy forward on the global stage.
