New Delhi buzzed with cricket fervor as the Jammu and Kashmir Ranji Trophy-winning team paid a courtesy visit to Union Minister Piyush Goyal. The highlight was gifting him a premium GI-tagged willow bat, autographed by the entire squad—a perfect fusion of sporting glory and regional heritage.
Taking to X, Goyal expressed his gratitude: ‘Thrilled to receive this GI-tagged willow bat from J&K’s Ranji champions. A meaningful token that highlights their craftsmanship and cricket passion.’ The bat, sourced from Kashmir’s famous willow groves, carries the prestigious Geographical Indication tag, underscoring its authenticity and quality.
Led by Paras Dogra, J&K scripted history by winning their first-ever Ranji Trophy after 67 long years. Facing Karnataka in the summit clash, they dominated with 584 in the first innings. Shubham Pundir’s 121 set the tone, backed by Yawar Hassan’s 88 and Sahil Lotra’s 72. Karnataka managed only 293, handing J&K a 291-run lead.
J&K’s second innings yielded 342 for 4, ensuring the title via first-innings superiority. Aquib Nabi Dar’s 5-fer in the final and tournament haul of 60 wickets proved decisive. Dogra’s 637 runs came at 49.53, while Abdul Samad’s 748 runs (1 ton, 5 fifties) at 69 average lit up the campaign.
