Hilton Head Island’s Harbour Town Golf Links witnessed a remarkable comeback story on the second day of the RBC Heritage. Akshay Bhatia, the 24-year-old golfer of Indian descent, dismantled the course with an 8-under 63, the day’s best, climbing 46 places to T-19 with a cumulative 6-under.
After a shaky opening 73, Bhatia flipped the script. Eleven birdies defined his round, particularly the final nine holes where six birdies showcased his precision and power. A lone bogey and double bogey were minor hiccups in an otherwise dominant performance.
Sahith Theegala matched the intensity, posting 67 (4-under) with aggressive play – two eagles amid birdies and bogeys – to reach T-19. Sudarshan Yelamaraju’s 66 (5-under), ending with four straight birdies, secured T-46 at 2-under.
Leaderboard highlights include leader Matt Fitzpatrick at 14-under on a perfect 63. Viktor Hovland trails at 13-under, Harris English at 10-under in third. Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Cantlay, and Sepp Straka share fourth. Scottie Scheffler, the world No. 1, is T-14 at 7-under; Cameron Young T-35.
This Indian trio’s strong showings signal rising global talent in golf. Bhatia’s climb underscores resilience, setting up a thrilling chase for the title amid stiff competition.
