Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge didn’t hold back in criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s prime-time national address, calling it a violation of electoral norms and a desperate political gambit. With the Model Code of Conduct firmly in place, Kharge argued that Modi abused his office to hurl accusations at rivals, turning a solemn platform into a campaign stump speech riddled with falsehoods.
Posting on social media platform X, Kharge wrote, ‘PM Modi, cornered after 12 years without real progress, converted his nation’s address into electioneering. This misuse of state resources against opponents mocks our democracy and Constitution.’ He dissected the speech’s content, pointing out 59 references to Congress versus scant mentions of women, underscoring BJP’s misplaced focus.
Kharge positioned Congress as women’s true champion, recalling their pivotal role in advancing the Women’s Reservation Bill in 2010 and backing the 2023 version. ‘The real bill stands notified since April 16. Implement 33% reservation now on current seats, without tying it to delimitation,’ he urged.
Proudly enumerating Congress legacies—from agricultural revolutions and economic reforms to landmark laws like RTI, MGNREGA, and gender justice measures—Kharge contrasted this with BJP’s record. He alleged BJP shields perpetrators in high-profile rape cases and presides over states with surging crimes against women per NCRB stats.
In a strong finish, Kharge lamented the government’s inaction on soaring prices, economic woes, and everyday hardships despite over a decade in office, rallying voters to see through the rhetoric.
