In a strong show of support, Uttar Pradesh BJP leaders have praised the Election Commission’s call for fresh polls at every booth in West Bengal’s Phalta seat on May 21. The announcement follows reports of irregularities, reigniting debates on poll integrity.
Minister Sanjay Nishad described the step as fully aligned with constitutional provisions. ‘The Constitution guarantees impartial elections. Repolling restores faith when flaws emerge,’ he told reporters, highlighting the need to protect voter rights.
Addressing the EC’s move to appoint 242 extra supervisors for counting, Nishad reiterated the commission’s pivotal role. ‘It’s an autonomous body committed to transparent processes from start to finish,’ he said, countering claims of bias.
The ministers didn’t hold back on Rahul Gandhi’s comments. Nishad challenged Congress’s track record: ‘After years in government, they stalled vital legislation. Opposing representation enhancements exposes their hypocrisy.’
Anil Rajbhar took aim at Congress’s stance on women. ‘Their history shows resistance to empowerment. Modi’s government has delivered tangible benefits for women,’ he claimed, contrasting leadership styles.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak forecasted a BJP victory. ‘Our position in Phalta is unassailable; expect a resounding win,’ he declared.
This development underscores ongoing rivalries in West Bengal politics, where repolling could reshape outcomes and test the EC’s resolve amid allegations of malpractice.
