Amid swirling political controversy in Punjab, former AAP Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahni has hit back at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s allegations of treachery following his high-profile move to BJP. In an IANS interview, Sahni portrayed his defection as a bold step toward Punjab’s revival, not disloyalty.

Protests have erupted across Punjab over Sahni’s switch, but he remains undeterred. ‘Bhagwant Mann is the elected CM, chosen by the people. We respect that, but the public will judge in 2027,’ Sahni said, urging patience from voters. He categorically rejected claims of betrayal, promising intensified service to Punjabis.

‘We’ve always given our all—body, mind, and wealth—for Punjab. Now, expect ten times more,’ he declared. Sahni pointed to central government’s commitments: Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary pledged unlimited funds for skilling youth to eradicate unemployment. Agriculture woes? Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is on board, awaiting proposals. Commerce too, with Piyush Goyal demanding actionable data.

Sahni criticized opaque practices in Punjab, saying, ‘We can’t operate on black box concepts; facts and figures will drive progress.’ His vision includes job guarantees for every youth and robust support for farmers. ‘Punjab and Punjabis have my life in service,’ he affirmed.

As Punjab gears up for 2027 assembly elections, Sahni’s crossover could reshape alliances, drawing AAP’s ire and BJP’s enthusiasm. The debate over loyalty versus pragmatism intensifies.
