At a high-profile national conference in Jammu, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha spotlighted India’s agricultural triumphs and future roadmap. Speaking at the Sher-e-Kashmir University summit on sustainable, climate-friendly farming ecosystems, he rallied experts to innovate against climate threats.

Under PM Modi’s vision, India’s farm output hit 357 million metric tons in 2024-25, up 25 million tons from 2023-24. Horticulture led with 362 million tons, boosted by high-value crop shifts. Sinha detailed soil health revolutions: nationwide testing and 25 crore cards issued to farmers.

Loan ceilings for farmers doubled to Rs 5 lakhs, while a Rs 100 crore mission funds superior seeds. MSP buys for pulses skyrocketed 7,350% and oilseeds 1,500% over the past decade. Despite these gains, harsh weather events last year exposed vulnerabilities.

Sinha advocated radical, evidence-based shifts: promote climate-smart crops via policies, connect research labs to farmlands, and prioritize resilient seed development. ‘Small tweaks won’t suffice; we need courageous reforms,’ he emphasized.

Post-event, Sinha celebrated the release of ‘The Waves of Resilience, Story of Radio Sharda,’ praising Ramesh Hangloo’s legacy on X. This gathering reinforces India’s proactive stance in global agri-sustainability efforts.
