West Bengal’s election fervor intensifies as Yusuf Pathan, the cricket star turned TMC politician, led a spirited rally backing candidate Sandeepan Saha. On Tuesday, Pathan reiterated his faith in TMC forming the next government under Mamata Banerjee.
In an exclusive interview, Pathan lauded Saha’s popularity and legacy. ‘He’s done outstanding work, following his father’s footsteps as a multi-term representative. People here love him, and his win is certain,’ Pathan told reporters. He attributed TMC’s momentum to Banerjee’s pro-development agenda resonating with the masses.
Saha, addressing the gathering, proclaimed unwavering public loyalty to Mamata Banerjee. ‘Bengal lives in Mamata Didi; no alternative exists,’ he declared. Brushing off anti-incumbency claims, Saha emphasized TMC’s consistent achievements. ‘Opposition has no real issues, so they peddle this narrative. Our government delivers, raising the bar every term—no room for anti-incumbency.’
The voter list revision drew sharp criticism from Saha. ‘SIR was mishandled in Bengal, cutting names of 2024 voters. Voter cards are primary IDs for most; this feels targeted,’ he alleged, questioning constitutional requirements like 10th-grade passes for voting.
On UCC, Saha pointed out its national scope. ‘If the center wants it, they don’t need Bengal elections. They’re manufacturing controversies due to lack of agenda,’ he observed.
Accusing ED-CBI of election-time overactivity, Saha noted past raids on TMC leaders produced no outcomes. ‘Central misuse of agencies is evident,’ he said. Pathan and Saha together painted a picture of resounding TMC victory, with Banerjee at the helm for another stint.
