In a display of naval excellence, INS Sudarshini, the Indian Navy’s premier sail training ship, has aced a pivotal stopover in Spain. The ship welcomed throngs of curious locals and Indian diaspora members, offering in-depth explorations of its decks and insights into centuries-old Indian seafaring traditions.

This wind-powered marvel is midway through a grueling 22,000+ nautical mile transoceanic adventure under the Lokayan-26 banner. The Spanish visit has significantly advanced maritime diplomacy, cementing ties with international allies. Wrapping up its three-day stay, the port call stands as a resounding success.

Key interactions included a formal courtesy call by the Commanding Officer to Rear Admiral Santiago de Colsa Trueba of the Canary Islands Naval Command. The dialogue focused on deepening bilateral naval relations, with emphasis on shared goals in maritime safety, training programs, and expertise sharing.

Crew members enthralled visitors with tales from the high seas, bridging cultural gaps and nurturing bonds of friendship. Setting sail anew, INS Sudarshini heads to Mindelo, Cape Verde—its last African port—prior to tackling the Atlantic. The voyage has already notched seven fruitful port visits in diverse regions including West Asia, Mediterranean Europe, and Africa.

Lokayan-26 exemplifies India’s proactive global outreach through naval endeavors. Departing Kochi on January 20, the expedition embodies the philosophy of ‘the world is one family’ and the ‘Mahan Sagara’ vision, spanning nearly 10 months and 18 ports across 13 nations, projecting India’s seafaring strength worldwide.
