The stage is set for elevated India-South Korea relations following a key meeting between India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung in New Delhi. Jaishankar praised the interaction as vital for advancing mutual interests.
Posting on social media platform X, Jaishankar conveyed his privilege in greeting President Lee upon the commencement of his official visit. He appreciated Lee’s resolve to deepen bilateral relations across various domains, fostering a stronger collaborative framework.
Looking ahead, Jaishankar anticipates that President Lee’s dialogue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow will significantly bolster their ‘Special Strategic Partnership.’ This will be their third in-person meeting post-G7 and G20 summits.
Bilateral momentum has accelerated recently. High-profile visits include Hardeep Singh Puri’s November 2025 trip to South Korea on shipbuilding matters, South Korea’s Science Minister’s February 2026 India visit for AI talks, and a March 2026 trade ministers’ conclave.
Cultural and educational bridges are expanding too. South Korea’s Education Minister launched a dedicated Korean Education Center in Delhi in January 2026, aimed at aiding Korean expatriates, boosting Korean language education, and drawing Indian youth to Korean studies.
Kyung Hoon Kim from the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy highlighted how industrial linkages have deepened in just 10 months, exemplifying proactive diplomacy.
After India, President Lee heads to Vietnam for high-level discussions, part of a broader regional outreach. This visit reaffirms India and South Korea’s commitment to a resilient partnership amid evolving geopolitical dynamics, promising enhanced trade, technology, and people-to-people ties.
