In a bid to soothe ruffled feathers within Karnataka Congress, Home Minister G Parameshwara announced on Tuesday that Rahul Gandhi will chart the path forward amid grievances voiced by Muslim leaders. The party vows to examine these issues meticulously.

During a media briefing, the minister highlighted Congress’s historical emphasis on Muslim inclusion in electoral politics. He clarified that the practice of allotting tickets to kin of deceased leaders has been misconstrued in recent debates.

Parameshwara noted, “It’s natural for leaders to seek nominations based on their strong voter support. The ticket to late Shamanur Shivashankarappa’s family was a reasoned choice, not to be misconstrued. We’ll handle this internally with the leadership.”

Flashback to Davangere South bypoll: Demands for a Muslim nominee went unheeded, fueling unrest. Things escalated post-polls with claims of disloyalty, prompting the ouster of key figures Abdul Jabbar and Naseer Hussain from prominent positions.

Shifting gears, Parameshwara tackled police department friction. He’s ordered inquiries into mistreatment claims against a civil rights enforcement inspector and SP Kashi’s accusations against Commissioner Reddy, who denies any wrongdoing.

“DGP reports will dictate next steps,” Parameshwara said firmly. This dual focus on party harmony and administrative integrity reflects Congress’s strategy to consolidate ahead of electoral battles, with Rahul Gandhi’s involvement adding significant weight.
