In a shocking expose, Mumbai BJP leader Amit Satam has demanded swift action against BMC officials implicated in a colossal birth and death records fraud. Writing to Mayor Ritu Tavade and Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, the MLA called for suspensions and FIRs, spotlighting over 87,000 dubious entries from 2024-2026.
The irregularities? Entries bypassed the official CRS portal, funneled into the outdated SAP system instead. BMC’s audit flagged MHOs in multiple wards for flouting central directives, making unauthorized changes that could facilitate illegal document issuance.
‘Such fakes could arm intruders with forged papers to burrow into official databases, endangering Mumbai’s security fabric,’ Satam cautioned in his letter. He insisted on ward-level scrutiny to pinpoint culprits and ensure rigorous legal action.
With legitimate CRS registrations lagging at just 33,772, the scale of manipulation is staggering. Satam emphasized that public interest and urban safety demand immediate, decisive steps. The administration has acknowledged the missive and initiated reviews, as opposition voices amplify the chorus for justice.
As this controversy unfolds, it underscores vulnerabilities in municipal data management, urging reforms to safeguard citizen records and prevent exploitation by bad actors.
