Delhi’s cyber cops have cracked open a slick ‘work-from-home’ swindle gang operating through Instagram, leading to the capture of a young Rajasthan student. Anuj Meena, 20, pursuing veterinary science near Nohar in Rajasthan, was nabbed from Karauli district after a victim’s bold complaint.
The duo behind the racket posted enticing ads for ‘handwriting jobs’ at home, hooking jobless folks. They bled one Delhi resident dry—Rs 500 for signup, Rs 1,987 for supplies, Rs 1,755 GST, and Rs 3,788 for account checks—totaling Rs 34,509.95 siphoned via relentless pressure tactics.
Cyber Cell’s Central District team pounced after the April 29 FIR. UPI trails led straight to Anuj’s setups. A May 1 operation in Rajasthan yielded the arrest, plus vital evidence like his phone packed with fraud proof.
Anuj confessed to teaming up with fugitive Ganesh Sharma, who ran the Instagram show and sweet-talked victims, while Anuj supplied the banking backbone and shuffled funds. A Gujarat link emerged too, flagging more potential victims.
As the manhunt for Ganesh intensifies, investigators comb through transaction webs to recover losses and identify others hit. DCP Rohit Rajbir Singh highlighted the scam’s sophistication, warning of similar traps on social media.
