In a major win for public health, Gujarat finished fourth in the country’s Nutrition Fortnight 2026, the 8th installment of this vital drive. Held between April 9 and 23, the fortnight witnessed the state executing 73.14 lakh activities, surpassing 10% of the national tally.

This 10.77% share in reported activities highlights Gujarat’s leadership in the National Nutrition Mission. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel steered the effort, with Minister Dr. Manisha Vakil ensuring meticulous execution via the Women and Child Development Department, which logged 33.91 lakh events—nearly half of the total.

Collaboration defined the campaign, with more than 18 departments like Health, Education, and Rural Development working in unison. The focus theme urged optimal brain development in early childhood, noting 85% growth by age six, blending nutrition with cognitive stimulation.

Five pillars formed the backbone: enhancing maternal nutrition, promoting breastfeeding, ensuring infant feeding, fostering play-based cognitive development, and prepping children for school through anganwadi activities. Screen time reduction and active lifestyles were also prioritized.

CSR partnerships bolstered anganwadi facilities, while villages pulsed with events—nutrition forums, competitions, and rallies. Officials praise this scale and participation as a model for achieving nutrition targets, reflecting deep community and governmental resolve.
