In a boost to India’s fight against malnutrition, Gujarat has emerged as a frontrunner, securing fourth place in the country’s Nutrition Fortnight 2026. Spanning April 9-23, the drive saw the state orchestrate 73.14 lakh activities, surpassing 10% of national contributions and earning accolades in the National Nutrition Mission rankings.
Led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and monitored by Minister Dr. Manisha Vakil, the fortnight mobilized 18+ departments. The Women and Child Development sector dominated with 33.91 lakh events, forming nearly half of all state activities.
Centered on early brain development—where 85% growth happens before age six—the initiative rested on five pillars. These included enhancing pregnant women’s diets, reinforcing breastfeeding norms, complementary feeding for infants, cognitive stimulation via interactive play, and anganwadi play-based schooling prep.
Addressing screen addiction, programs urged kids toward active lifestyles. Grassroots efforts featured village-level nutrition forums, competitions, and community events, while CSR funds revamped anganwadi facilities.
Gujarat’s scale and inter-departmental harmony exemplify effective policy execution, setting a benchmark for sustainable child nutrition and cognitive advancement across the nation.
