In a major breakthrough, Mumbai Police’s crime branch lodged a comprehensive 1624-page chargesheet on Thursday in the Rohit Shetty residence firing case. The document chronicles the probe into the brazen daylight attack that rattled Mumbai’s film circles.
Occurring on February 1 outside Shetty’s Juhu home, the shooting was initially suspected to be an extortion bid. However, evidence soon tied it to the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate, spurring a series of arrests. To date, 15 individuals are in custody, including long-time fugitive Pradeep Kumar alias Gath, captured in Agra by a UP STF-Mumbai team on April 17.
Gath’s on-site role during the firing was confirmed through rigorous investigation. Post-arrest, he was produced before a special court and granted to police custody for deeper questioning. Other nabbed accused include Ritik, Sunny, Deepak, Vishnu, and Golu, among others.
The voluminous chargesheet encapsulates critical findings, from forensic details to witness statements, painting a vivid picture of the conspiracy. Two suspects remain on the run, but police assure their imminent capture.
As the case moves forward in Mumbai’s special court, the filing signals an end to preliminary investigations and the start of trial proceedings. This episode underscores the growing nexus between organized crime and entertainment hubs, prompting calls for enhanced security measures for public figures.
