A tragic discovery was made in the Mathurapuri forest within the Patamda police station area, where the body of a missing young man was found. The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Kanhai Mahto, a resident of Bangurda village in the Kankin police station area. Kanhai had been reported missing for the past five days. The body was discovered late Monday evening, and news reached his family shortly thereafter. Kanhai Mahto was known to suffer from mental illness and supported his family through labor work at a grain shop in Kankin Bazaar. He had left his home for morning ablutions last Wednesday and never returned. Despite extensive searches by family and relatives in surrounding villages and areas, no trace of him could be found. He lived with his wife and two daughters; his parents had passed away previously. His eldest daughter is married in Bankuchiya village. Local BJP worker Gopal Mahto stated that Kanhai appeared normal before his disappearance, although his mental health condition sometimes led to erratic behavior. According to some accounts, shepherds near the CHC hospital in Macha saw him heading towards the forest on Wednesday morning. When questioned, he offered no response and proceeded quickly into the woods. Police investigations suggest that Kanhai took his own life by hanging himself from a tree in the forest. Following the shepherds’ information, police reached the Mathurapuri forest on Monday, retrieved the body, and placed it in the mortuary of MGM Medical College. The family identified the body on Tuesday. Police have initiated an investigation, suspecting suicide.
