Fake Appointments Rock J&K Health Dept: Employee Nabbed

Corruption in Jammu and Kashmir’s healthcare system has been exposed once again with the arrest of a senior health department official in a multi-year fake recruitment scandal. Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Crime Branch made the breakthrough, detaining Shah Nawaz Ahmad Mir, a Senior Assistant from Srinagar.

The operation was executed by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir under a 2017 FIR that had been lingering in investigations. What started as a complaint against forged documents has now unravelled a deeper conspiracy involving illicit job placements.

It all began when the Deputy Director Health Services Kashmir flagged irregularities. Bashir Ahmad Sofi from Budgam’s Mazhama had allegedly faked his credentials—including bogus transfer orders and a fabricated last pay certificate—to land a Health Educator role. He then proceeded to work unlawfully in Baramulla’s Block Sheeri, siphoning off public funds through salaries.

Mir’s role emerged as pivotal during intensified scrutiny. Hailing from Tankipora Shahid Gunj, he is no stranger to such frauds, with multiple cases either under probe or already charge-sheeted. Authorities believe he acted as a facilitator in this and possibly other scams.

With this high-profile arrest, the EOW is casting a wider net, aiming to dismantle the entire fake appointment ring. The financial implications are staggering, highlighting systemic vulnerabilities in recruitment processes.

As Jammu and Kashmir continues its battle against graft, this case serves as a stern warning to those exploiting public trust. Updates on the investigation are anticipated, which could implicate more individuals in the health department’s underbelly.
