Early election trends from Assam have delivered a strong mandate to the BJP, propelling it past the 64-seat majority in the 126-member Assembly. This development, announced by the Election Commission around 11 AM, suggests the saffron party is on track to retain power decisively.

BJP holds leads in 78 seats, dwarfing Congress’s 24 and AIUDF’s meager two. The results highlight the NDA’s enduring appeal in a state marked by ethnic diversity and development-focused campaigns.

On a personal note, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma commands a massive 12,000-vote lead in Jalukbari, his pocket borough. Meanwhile, Gaurav Gogoi, Congress state president contesting Jorhat, trails by more than 9,000 votes, exposing opposition vulnerabilities.

The counting process spans 40 centers in 35 districts, with enhanced setups in key regions. Nagaon features three dedicated halls, while Kokrajhar, Tinsukia, and Jorhat operate two each, minimizing delays in high-stakes areas.

The electoral battlefield featured 722 contenders, 59 of them women. Congress led with 99 nominees, BJP close behind at 90. AIUDF picked 30 seats, NDA partners AGP 26 and BPF 11. In the opposition camp, Raijor Dal fielded 13, AJP 10, CPI(M) 3, and APHLC 2.

Other parties like AAP and UPPL (18 each), TMC (22), JMM (16), and 258 independents added to the fray. The April 9 polls recorded an impressive 85.96% turnout from over 2.5 crore eligible voters.

These trends not only affirm BJP’s governance record but also signal a rejection of fragmented opposition strategies. As final tallies emerge, Assam’s political future looks firmly aligned with the NDA’s vision.
