With vote tallying set to kick off Monday in Tamil Nadu’s high-stakes Assembly elections, DMK leaders are sounding the alarm on brewing security threats. The party has pressed election officials and police for ironclad arrangements to avert violence and ensure a glitch-free process.
In a strongly worded letter to Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik and the state’s police chief, DMK organizational secretary RS Bharati outlined fears of coordinated attacks on counting centers and politically charged sites like party offices.
‘Disruptions at these vulnerable points could spark widespread unrest, undermining the integrity of our democracy,’ Bharati cautioned. He advocated for bolstered police presence and proactive steps to forestall trouble.
Addressing the media from DMK’s central office Anna Arivalayam, Bharati explained the proactive submission of the memo to guarantee rapid responses to any polling day hiccups. ‘Timely action is crucial to prevent escalation and maintain order,’ he stressed.
He criticized previous instances where complaints lingered unresolved and insisted on immediate redressal mechanisms. Social media buzz about potential foul play during counting has fueled these apprehensions, prompting calls for relentless surveillance by law enforcement.
Bharati didn’t hold back on claims that the Election Commission is tilting the scales in favor of the BJP. Nevertheless, he projected confidence, stating DMK is geared up for all scenarios. As anticipation builds, the focus sharpens on whether authorities will heed these warnings and secure a peaceful culmination to the electoral battle.
