With West Bengal election results on the horizon, Congress leader Shubhankar Sarkar delivered a scathing assessment of the BJP’s fortunes, predicting a complete shutout. In an interview, the state president positioned Congress as the emerging force against TMC dominance.
‘Bengal offers no foothold for BJP. They can’t form a government,’ Sarkar stated confidently. He pointed to impending EVM scrutiny as the moment of truth and stressed the urgency of dislodging TMC, with Congress ready to step up as the alternative.
Sarkar lambasted the strongroom security row as a collusive spectacle between TMC, BJP, and the Election Commission. ‘This farce erodes democratic values and must stop,’ he asserted, calling for stricter oversight to safeguard the process.
Doubts over EVM reliability dominated his critique. ‘Why do advanced countries shun EVMs? Inventors themselves abstain. Central government’s persistence raises red flags,’ Sarkar argued, insisting real answers require regime change at the center.
Dismissing TMC’s virtual huddles, he called them standard internal affairs. ‘Parties always strategize with workers; nothing unusual there.’
Sarkar’s provocative stance underscores Congress’s strategy to reclaim relevance in Bengal, exploiting fissures in the TMC-BJP binary. As counting begins, his words could galvanize supporters and influence the post-poll narrative in this battleground state.
