A robust crackdown by Hyderabad and Cyberabad traffic police over the weekend snared more than 700 individuals driving under the influence of alcohol. The special campaign, spanning May 1-2, highlighted the dangers of impaired driving in India’s bustling tech hub.
Hyderabad police detained 445 drivers, breaking down as 371 motorbike users, 26 auto-rickshaw operators, and 48 car or other vehicle drivers. BAC categorizations revealed stark realities: 99 mildly over the limit at 30-50 mg/100ml, escalating to 173 at 51-100, 100 in the 101-150 range, 42 up to 200, and extreme cases with 31 above 200 mg/100ml.
Cyberabad’s efforts yielded 283 arrests: 227 two-wheelers, 9 three-wheelers, 39 four-wheelers, and 8 truck drivers. Of these, 222 registered 36-200 mg/100ml, 33 hit 201-300, and 28 soared beyond 300 to 550 mg/100ml.
Officials confirmed all will appear in court. Emphasizing the gravity, Additional CP G. Hanmantha Rao noted fatal accidents from drunk driving trigger BNS Section 105, punishable by a decade in jail and hefty penalties. Recent court disposals of 160 cases included fines for most and added community service for a dozen.
This zero-tolerance stance signals ongoing enforcement. Citizens are called to shun alcohol behind the wheel, safeguarding lives on Hyderabad’s roads.
