A ferocious fire outbreak in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar neighborhood on Sunday dawn turned a quiet residential block into a scene of horror, resulting in nine fatalities and multiple injuries. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was quick to express his devastation on X, extending heartfelt sympathies to the grieving families and wishing speedy recovery to those hurt.
The fire allegedly started from an air conditioner blast, engulfing several floors within minutes and overwhelming initial escape attempts. Delhi’s LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu shared his sorrow online, instructing officials to ensure top-notch medical care for survivors and prompt relief for impacted households. On-site emergency responders, including Delhi Fire Services, battled the flames relentlessly.
CM Rekha Gupta described the event as profoundly tragic, with nine lives lost and the injured receiving urgent hospital care. She emphasized the round-the-clock efforts of district authorities, DDMA, fire brigade, and police in managing rescue operations.
Victims identified so far include second-floor residents Arvind, Anita Jain, Nishant Jain, and Anchal Jain; 45-year-old Shikha Jain from the first floor; and third-floor dwellers Nitin Jain, Sheli Jain, and Samyak Jain. This blaze serves as a stark reminder of vulnerabilities in high-rise living amid Delhi’s rapid urbanization.
Community leaders and residents are calling for immediate safety audits and better infrastructure. As the probe delves deeper, the focus remains on supporting the survivors and honoring the memory of those lost in this preventable disaster.
