The government’s ambitious drive towards piped natural gas has hit new highs, with 5.96 lakh PNG connections now operational across India since March 2026. Infrastructure for another 2.68 lakh stands ready, elevating total capacity to 8.64 lakh, according to the Petroleum Ministry’s latest update.

A whopping 6.66 lakh households have signed up for fresh connections, while 43,350-plus consumers have ditched LPG for PNG by May 1. This transition is part of a broader strategy to make cleaner cooking fuels accessible nationwide.

LPG innovations are firing on all cylinders too. Over 22.78 lakh 5 kg FTL cylinders have flown off shelves since April 2026, thanks to 9,980+ OMC-led awareness drives that sold 1.71 lakh units. Commercial sales hit 2.05 lakh MT (matching 108.34 lakh standard cylinders), with auto LPG at 10,698 MT in the past month.

Gas supply to fertilizer units is at 98% of their six-month average, optimizing production. All refineries hum at high capacity, backed by robust crude reserves. Petrol and diesel pumps report sufficient stocks, with no rate changes amid minor rumor-induced buying sprees.

To bolster petrochemicals, LPG output for homes has increased, and a dedicated inter-ministerial group ensures raw material flow. Key refineries have dispatched 10,000+ MT propylene and 1,200+ MT butyl acrylate since early April, supporting vital industries. Fuel availability remains unhindered, affirming the system’s strength against disruptions.
